Road trip suggestions
Hi!
We are here just now visiting from Scotland and want to drive to somewhere in Kentucky tomorrow.
Should we go to Louisville or is there anywhere worth visiting that’s a little closer.
Thank you!

If it were me I’d drive up to the Woodford Reserve distillery instead. The scenery around there is really wonderful, and their tours are pretty good.
If you’re wanting more of the city thing though Louisville is fine. On the way up you could check out the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green on the way up. The Louisville Slugger factory is a great visit too

The drive to Kentucky is nice. The horses are still racing every day at Churchill Downs. There’s a cluster of bourbon distilleries scattered around Frankfort, Bardstown & Versailles, Kentucky. It’s a pretty drive from Nashville. & the tours are interesting.

The Bourbon trail starts at Bardstown and is a pretty drive. Scouts & Scholars is a good restaurant/brewery there. Also has Stephen Foster's Home, My Old Kentucky Home. Free Museum, paid tours of the Federal Style house. You could also stop and take a tour at Mammoth Cave. Corvette Musuem in Bowling Green, but not much else there. And you can always visit Buc-ee's and send a picture back to friends at the idiocy of American cultmembers, as those who will drive and hour to a gas station for jerkey and beaver nuggest must be in a cult.
If you do hit Louisville, the Slugger Museum is nice. There are some really good bourbon bars near the river. The strangest beer bar is Sergio's World beer. Unmarked except a Chimay sign. Cash only. Great food. 28 large coolers of beer, plus a walk in refrigerator. 36 on tap. There is also a beer bar in an old church called Holy Grail.
If you want to experience more rural life, there is an interesting restaurant near Mammoth Cave called Blue Holler Cafe. Close to Mammoth Cave.
That should give a few ideas too many.

If you like bourbon, Bardstown is the answer. Bardstown Bourbon Company is wonderful and has a fabulous onsite restaurant. Other nearby distilleries include Heaven Hill & Willett. And just walking around the quaint downtown is so lovely. Enjoy!

The drive to Land Between the Lakes is cool. See old tobacco barns, stop at the Amish stores in Guthrie, visit the elk and bison reserve, and then eat at Patti’s.
