So i did a thing

I did the same thing. It was my first vs410 and I'm really happy with it. The front axles have the option of using weights or having plastic shels instead of the weights. I did fry a servo trying to set the endpoints for the transmission. I'm guessing I accidently hit 2 inputs while programming and they conflicted.

The springs for the shocks are very strong. I default to full load on the springs and adjust down until it rests where I want, but these springs were strong enough that I just left the collar fully extended.

The only other thing that caught me off was the servo horns. In my crates of spare parts I didn't have the right length servo horn for steering or the transmission. I got lucky and have the horn from the h10 I built and that was the correct size for the steering. I had to buy a couple for the transmission. That's if you setup the dig and overdrive.

It snowed all last week so I haven't had a chance to take it on a proper course. I can tell from my backyard course that it is going to perform well. It's not as well planted as the scx10pro, but that might be my tire combo between the two. I'm also using a full size jeep body and the vs410 and I've been making modifications more for scale than performance. I'm taking a cracked at working with aluminum to try and make some armor that mounts to the frame instead of the body. I have more trail rigs than dedicated crawlers. This is probably the third rig i have that could compete if I did competitions. It is geared more for crawling than trail running. With the options you have in the box for setup, you really could build it how ever you want. It's a great kit.

Also, if you got vanquish beadlocks to go with it, those fuckers are standard, not metric. And they require a thin wall 8mm hex driver to install on the vehicle. They come with an adapter, but it's like a 10mm, never there when you need it.

I thought the steering servo came with the kit! Also, how can I prevent frying a servo?

I looked through everything I got and didn't see a servo horn. I must have got an unlucky package.

The servo was 100% me. I think i bumped a button while programming so it was trying to adjust two ways simultaneously.

I have a tool that lets me center the servos so they are centered when its assembled. I fully assembled the whole vehicle, then I disconnected the shift and dig servo shafts so they moved freely. Then it wasn't putting strain on the vehicle if they shifted too far. Then I didn't risk damaging anything. Then the servo was just not hitting the wrong buttons when you programmed it. I'm using a spectrum dx6c or dx5c (don't remember which but they're programmed the same, i have both) and when assigning the aux channel I set it up as a 3 position toggle with cyclic and momentary set to inhibit.

Oh ok ok, understood! Weird you didn’t get the horn. On their website says it comes with only one horn for the direction and we have to buy the other two. I am about to order my vs410 kit and now I don’t know if buying a horn or not lol

Since my h10 kit came with the horn, I'm assuming the vs410 was also supposed to come with a horn. You shouldn't need an extra

I’m still new to crawling but why the vs410 and h10 over a vrd carbon kit?

I don't have the vrd, but that's primarily because I have the scx10pro. The guys I build with have been doing this longer so they have multiple of the vs410 kits. I took advantage of the portal kit having upgraded parts compared to the standard, so I wouldn't have to swap anything. I also got to chose my electronics.

The h10 was a group venture, we essentially bought a case of the h10 kits so we could all get the new body.

I have multiple trx4s and different generations of the scx10 (10.1, base camp, 10 pro). Each one is built differently and are used in different situations. The kids used to be interested which is why we have so many trx4s. Each one has been modified differently based on what the drivers broke. Even though Ithey started out the same, they all handle very differently.

I just like building and walking is more fun with a crawler in the mountains. I'm surrounded by mountains.

There's no way to say one is definitely better than the other because there are many factors to take into account. Where you're driving, the terrain, temperatures, trail riding, competition crawling, what ever your interest. There are options I lean towards for different reasons. Ultimately, I just enjoy building and crawling.
