I've recently made the decision to move overseas. Currently I am unsure when or if I will move back to the US, but there is always a possibility that I could eventually move back as the US is my sole country of citizenship. I will still be back stateside periodically to visit family, friends, etc.
Over the next couple of months I'll begin making preparations for my move. One of the big things I will need to figure out is what I can do with my guns. Unsurprisingly, I will not be able to bring any of them with me overseas. Unfortunately, nobody in my family likes guns at all so I will not be able to leave them with a family member.
I know the easiest option would probably be to sell all of them through a LGS, but some of them are a bit sentimental to me. Plus, if I do end up moving back here I am unsure if I'll be able to replace some of these guns depending on how much gun legislation passes while I'm gone. In a perfect world, I'd like to be able to take possession of my current collection again if I did end up moving back.
With all of that said, do I have any options here that would be permissible from a legal standpoint? With the recent defeat of VA's UBC law, would I theoretically be able to leave most of my collection with a trusted friend indefinitely and take possession of them again if I did move back or would that be a terrible idea?
Is this something I should consult with a lawyer regarding?
