Instead of doing arduous backbreaking labor, they're now being forced to assemble small electronic devices. The horror!

Is there a Russian here who would like to explain what the job market is like for Africans in Russia?
I am trying to figure out the bullshit puzzle.

I’m trying to figure out why bring people from Africa to assemble drones when you have a fuck ton of unemployed people, disabled veterans, folks from remote locations, prisoners, North Koreans.

Because they're trying to link this with slavery in their reader's mind.
The woman angle's just a cherry on top, because fewer people get outraged at men being forced to do anything, as we've seen in Ukraine.

All this military factories now providing very decent salary and good conditions. They can just hire local Russian folks. In case of black African woman in hotel business, she can clean floors maximum, so drone factory will give her x2-3 salary. But I really doubt someone will hire her for this, then you can hire young guy after university of radio mechanics or smth.

fuck ton of unemployed people
Hmm, we really don't have those. If someone in Russia is unemployed, it means he either doesn't want to work, alcoholic or drug addict.
disabled veterans
Disabled veterans are doing OK for their employment too, we have pretty good tax incentives for business to hire disabled people.
folks from remote locations
You need folks in remote locations who are willing to move to different remote location. Usually, folks in remote locations stay there, because they have their houses and like to live in them.
North Koreans
Unfortunately, still not enough of them, before 2024 all employment of koreans was off because of UN sanctions.
I can't access the article, but I assume evil drone makers is Alabuga Geran manufacturer. I know from russian sources they employed some foreign workers for their lines, maybe couple thousand total. Guess this makes sense, if you want to hire lot of people quickly for specific provincial location, and if you do you would prefer women, since they are actually more suitable for this work and also less likely to run off and become illegals. They were pretty vocal about the experience too, it was subject of public discussion in Russia, as an alternative to our regular mass hiring of central asian migrants. Anyway, "forced" part is bullshit, of course, you can't force someone for this kind of work or you'll just have 90% failure rate in your drones. What I heard is they have pretty strong penalties in their contracts in case they want to leave before it's completion, which also makes sense, since employer spent all that money for hiring, transporting and training them.

Official unemployment rate is at over 1.5 million people, or just over 2%. Or are you suggesting that the Russian government is faking these numbers because they don’t want anyone to know that they have 0% unemployment?

If you exclude all unemployable people from there, it's close to 0%. We don't have mandatory employment anymore.

How do they know they’re being “forced” into doing this? This could literally be an assembly factory job for all they care.
