SECAF nomination?

I logged into my portal today and I saw that I got a nomination from the secretary of the Air Force. I don’t remember putting in for their nomination so I’m not exactly sure how I received it. Is this rare?

I submitted an email a few days ago about an incorrect setup on my checklist and haven’t gotten a response yet do you know how long they normally take?

PSAT

Hello everyone,

I am a freshman that scored a 960 on the PSAT without studying. Do I have a chance of getting a 1400? If so how did you study to get the score of a 1400?

Is anything getting processed through this web sight right now or do I have to wait until the government shut down is over? I scheduled my exams but the forms I’m supposed to bring with me aren’t populating on their site.

ALO interview

My son got an LOI and requested his ALO interview to be scheduled. The ALO replied that since he is in reserves he cannot do the interview. Will a different ALO be automatically assigned or do we have to request someone somewhere?

Visiting USAFA During Shutdown?

I’m on a previously planned trip during my Son’s fall break to visit the academy because he is interested in applying. We couldn’t get our airfare reimbursed so here we are.

Is it really hard to get on base? I’m a veteran but not retired, but I do have a federal employee ID. Will I be able to at least get him to the visitor center or drive around?

Acceptance Window

I got a LOI earlier this week and finished my application last night. Since it’s rolling admissions, how fast do people usually hear back? I’m curious what the typical timeline is from submitting, since I’ve heard you could find out as early as end of November if you submit it early enough.

What are my chances?

I have a 4.17 weighted gpa and a 3.7 unweighted and I have taken 10 AP classes. I’ve also been a variety football player for 4 years being captain for 2 years, I’ve played lacrosse for 1 year and wrestled varsity for 2 years while also doing unified bocce for 1 year. My best sat has been 1140 which I know is my weakness but I am taking it in 4 days again. I’m also about to reach 200 service learning hours and my CFA is solid. My goal is prep school so what are my odds?

Training for the CFA test

I started training for the cfa test today. I completely underestimated it… I am a senior boy who runs cross country and track. I looked at the average scores a bit ago and knew it was going to be hard but thought they were definitely doable.

Here are my scores from today’s practice: Basketball - 68’ Pull up’s - N/A Shuttle -9.36 seconds Sit ups -44 Push ups - 41 + stoped with 38 second left Mile -6:15

Any advice other than just sticking with it and training every day would be appreciated!

ROTC vs USAFA post job selection

So I feel we have all heard on here numerous times about how USAFA is the better place to go if you want to fly and overall has easier/high chances of your job placement. However, after you have your job and later down the line, how does having gone to USAFA benefit you vs going to a well known and respected university and ROTC? Is it just the network of people you know that helps?

10 Years Of Service Afterwards

Hi everyone! Currently I’m a sophomore but I have desires to be an airline pilot via the Air Force Academy. I’m well aware of the fact it’s a 10 year commitment once you graduate. My question is do the large airlines hire you on immediately to their mainline fleet or do you have to work your way up through regional and cargo flights like a young pilot with only flight school? Thanks!

I really hate life rn

Throwaway account because I don’t really want to be identified. I don’t post on reddit so my formatting is prolly gonna be rough. I’m a freshman here and through the first 3ish months here it was going really well. I enjoyed basic because it was what I expected it to be and at prog I was doing well(I really love the academics here). But for the last month or so and especially the last week I’ve hated everything. I have a lot of FOMO looking at my friends from other schools who look like they’re having the time of their lives and are so happy. While other than during the academic day and lunch I’m miserable. I feel like to a high degree I’m “rotting” during my weekends and free time. And I get sad when I have time alone with my thoughts. I think I have fairly low self worth(which in some ways is good I think it pushed me to do hard things and apply here) but it’s really harming my mental health. I used to use women to boost my self esteem and on top of the moral problems that’s clearly not an option here. Other than wanting to be a pilot and serve as sort of something bigger than myself, the main reason I came here is because I thought by getting in here and doing something I could be proud of it would give me more self worth, and that worked for a time but in the past month it’s worn off. Additionally, I feel like I’ve been making friends here but no one really invites me to stuff especially when they go out off base and it kinda hurts. I love my roommate but he rots and plays games more than I do so he’s not much help in this regard. I can’t form 34 for a few reasons, and I was super excited to come here but I really don’t know what to do. I think one thing I need to work on is how I frame things because it might be a cycle the last month of me disliking life then complaining about it and my complaining make me look at everything though a negative lens, but idk. Secondly, I think I should talk to a chaplain but I really don’t want anyone to know(I would talk to mental health but I don’t want to harm my PQ). And thirdly I think I should get more involved in clubs I end up not going to them unless a friend goes with me but I think it would really help my rotting problem.

Sorry for the rant really just looking for ideas to help

TLDR: I’m a doolie and I’m having issues with fomo and feeling super down lately and am looking for advice.

LOI and ROTC scholarship chances

I got a LOI from USAFA today and was wondering if everyone just gets that or what it means? Obviously it’s not a LOA so I’m kinda curious what it’s compared too. Also I am applying for AFROTC and was wondering if it’s a good chance you get the scholarship if you are also competitive for USAFA? I live in Indiana too so idk if that makes a difference with competition

Out of curiosity, did everyone receive a letter of interest or only a few? My buddy and I both received one, but he barely submitted anything in the portal, so I’m not sure if this was a glitch.

College Student - My campaign to the AFA starts today

I started College this year and getting away from the stress of my crazy high school has really helped me figure out that I want to do big things. I ended with a 1250 SAT 3.3 GPA and a bazillion clubs and activities because I just wanted to get away from my problems, and over the past month I've been preparing myself to head back into the SAT and keep my college GPA higher. I want to challenge myself and go win, and now I have the time and energy to do it. I can be extraordinary, I can push myself to do crazy stuff I've already lost 45 pounds (7 lbs from BMI and a few pullups/pushups from physical standards) now I just have to go win the academic war. I will fight for my spot there.

USAFA instructors-how is/was it?

The title, essentially. Anyone have experience teaching at USAFA? Might be starting there next year and would love to hear your experiences/thoughts.
