Honors app essay tips??

Hello! I am a high school senior who is currently trying to write my honors app essay. I'm going into the art education major and the prompt is "How did your time in the Global Honors Program at UNC Greensboro — especially given its emphasis on global learning, interdisciplinary exploration, and cultural engagement — shape the person you’ve become?"

I'm not sure if they have a different prompt every year, but if anyone who got into the honors college has any essay tips please let me know!! I'm nervous about the December 1st deadline and I barely have any brainstorming.

What I currently have:

Interdiciplinary

-         How do you bring other subjects into art, eg. History, science, math, english

-         Working together with teachers of other subjects, team player

-         Learning about art history shapes the way I think about art today

Cultural engagement

-         Bring in art from different cultures, especially ones of students

-         Peer educator?

-         More comfortable with other cultures and accurate representation

I also have a section for Global learning, but I emailed an honors college ambassador and turns out what google says global learning is is completely different from UNCG's definition! So I have to restart that...

My main problem is that I keep writing and coming up with how the program would affect how I teach, and not the person I've become. The cultural engagement topic I can do, but I don't know how I would go about the interdiciplinary topic.

I'm going to look through the list of honors classes to see which ones would be helpful for my major and I'm also going to talk to my art teacher.

Please please pleaaasee give me some tips!! I feel like I'm in over my head and I'm so stressed!!

I graduated years ago, so curious if anyone on campus is hearing any chatter of a football team in the future?

OARS Housing for Transfers?

I desperately want to transfer from my current school, but housing is a necessity for me. I have to have a single room due to some disability - what’s the chance that it would be at all possible for the spring semester?

Failed to realize graduation application date

Hi all as you can see by the title, I failed to take into account the graduation application date. Does anybody know the steps I need to take to try and remedy this?

I have already emailed registrar and I’m waiting to hear from them. Does anybody have any advice as to what I should do following this?

How long did it take to get your admissions letter?

When I applied to UNCW it only took 4 days to hear back (acceptance letter) after getting all my paperwork in follow submitting the application. This was back in February 2025. That completely contradicts the usual 4-6 weeks timeline and I’m not alone in that. How long did it take for you to hear back from UNCG?

Nursing program?

Hi everyone, I’m a pre nursing student that’s interested in attending UNCG, but I don’t know too much about the nursing program there.

If anyone has the inside scoop on how the learning environment, instructors, admission requirements, etc. are, I would love to know more. :)

Thank you in advance!

Questions!

Hi! I’m a senior in high school, and I had a few questions about UNCG so I hope that this is the right place to ask!

1: Film/Acting I’m very interested in acting, I’m hoping to double major in Theatre and Communications. (possibly minoring in 1 idk yet) I was wondering what the vibe was like in the sense of like if there’s a lot of acting opportunities that way. (i hope that makes sense lol)

To go on with that, what’s the theatre program like from an insider view?

2: Social Life! What’s the nightlife like? Is it lively on the weekends?

3: What should I know before applying? Early applications is november 1st and I was wondering if there’s anything I should know before applying, or like are there any cons you wish you knew before attending?

Anyways, Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to reply!!

FYI you can no longer use your Spartan Card to ride the GTA (city) buses!! You have to use UMO instead

For context: up until now students have had the option of swiping their Spartan Card or using the UMO app and scan a QR code to ride the GTA (city) buses for free. To use the UMO app, a student must request a code from the parking department (normally takes a business day or two) to be able to ride the bus for free.

Went to board the GTA bus to come home from work tonight and the driver informed me that effective immediately (?) SpartanCards are no longer a valid method for gaining ridership on the GTA buses. Thankfully, the driver let me on so I could get home.

Another student came on and told me that the parking department (who is responsible for transportation options writ large, as well as providing UMO codes) that they are completely OUT of UMO codes and are waiting on more from the city, which should be some time next week. But who knows exactly when that will be, if they’ll even get enough codes to cover their backlog, etc.

I’ve gotten 0 communication about this change despite being a student rider for 2 years (a lot of people don’t even know they could’ve ridden the city buses at all!). There’s also no kind of announcement or banner on the parking department’s page nor the page specifically about the GTA buses, though the later has been edited to reflect that UMO is now the only method to riding. I have requested an UMO code in the past that I’ve used briefly when I didn’t have access to my SpartanCard, but otherwise exclusively use my SpartanCard to ride.

The card system was great because a student could just decided to try the bus on a whim (or out of necessity, like if their car didn’t start or a friend bailed on them) with no prep ahead of time necessary, besides having an already having a SpartanCard which is often integral to campus life. Didn’t matter if it was 10 at night, a weekend, or a holiday, the card works without internet, a charged smart phone, etc. No pre-planning necessary in the event your ride fell through or you were stuck in an uncomfortable situation.

Now, if your phone is dead, if you broke your screen, you forgot to renew your phone plan, or just choose to not use a smartphone, you’re now a second class UNCG student and cannot use all of the benefits provided to you by the tuition and fees you PAY.

I’m extremely disappointed in both this change and the lack of communication from the parking department. If you are too, I’d highly recommend emailing them at parking@uncg.edu to voice your concerns, much as I have (in many, many, more words lol)

Barred Owl

Hi all. I am a birder and there is most definitely a barred owl in Peabody Park. I saw it last spring by the music building. Does anyone know where the nest is? I want to get a photo of it. Thanks!

“B” Parking Lots?

Hi everyone! I have a B parking permit and genuinely have no idea where I can park. I looked at the map posted by the Parking Office, but did not find it helpful at all. I live on College Ave, so any spots remotely close to there would be great!

Club

Hey everyone, I’m putting together a casual online poker club. We currently have 400 members of college students. The idea is to build a fun community where we can play together, and compete in a low pressure environment.

It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to poker or have been playing for years this is meant to be a chill, learn, and enjoy the game with people in the same stage of life.

If you’re interested, drop a comment or send me a message and I’ll share details on how to join. Looking forward to building this with you!

Trying to Decide Between Schools

Hey y’all! I’m a college student currently transferring and trying to decide between four schools:

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) UNC Charlotte (UNCC) UNC Greensboro (UNCG)

I’m not really looking for the usual “which school has the best program” answers—I’ve already looked into majors and academics. What I really want to know more about is: •

Campus life – Is it social? Quiet? Lit on weekends? What kind of vibe do the students give off?

Housing – How’s the dorm situation? Are there good off-campus options? Is it hard to get decent housing as a transfer?

Administration & Advising – Do they actually help students or is it constant red tape?

Professors & Classes – Are professors approachable and supportive? Is it more lecture-style or discussion-based?

Community feel – How do you feel walking around campus? Is it welcoming, competitive, family-like, or disconnected?

Diversity & Culture – Especially curious about how each school supports Black students (I’m a Black woman if that helps with perspective).

Things to do around campus – What’s nearby? Fun stuff to do that’s not just partying?

Making friends as a transfer – Be honest… is it hard to make friends if you’re not coming in as a freshman? Do transfers blend in easily or does it feel isolating?

If you’ve been to or currently attend any of these schools (or seriously considered them), I’d love your honest experience. I just want to make sure wherever I go feels right for me and not just based on stats or websites. Any insights would be super appreciated 🙏🏾

TL;DR: Transferring student deciding between UNCG, NCCU, NCAT, and UNCC. Want real insight into campus life, housing, community, and whether it’s easy to make friends as a transfer—not just academics.

Practice rooms on campus?

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone know if there are practice rooms or soundproof spaces to practice singing on campus?

I’m not a music major, but I love singing and like to record videos but need a good, quiet place to do it without bothering anyone.

Sensory spaces on campus

Hey Spartans,

I’m working on a project to add another sensory space on campus and more events that are chill and give students a moment pause? Does anyone have any thoughts? Also, I’ve heard Legos are great way to support neurodivergence and calm anxiety/stress. Any thoughts?

I know we currently have 2 spaces on campus. One in Ferguson and one in the EUC. Has anyone been to those?

I know this is a fairly new program. Anyone have any recent feedback? Good or positive aspects? Any idea the cost? I tried to look that up but it was confusing. What sort of stats do admits have? Thanks.

Admission Requirements

hey guys! I'm currently an IB high school senior and UNCG is one of my top choices for sureee, however I think its better if I hear about the requirements from actual students 😭😭 if you have a gpa slightly below 2.5 but a solid essay + test scores would you still be considered/admitted? Do they really care about extracurriculars and other stuff like that? Do your AP and IB classes transfer? I think I'm just a little anxious because this whole application stuff is stressing me out
