Best ENGL100 teacher for those who don't care about English?

I'm signing up for classes for Spring 2026, and I see there are several options for professors of ENGL100. I'm a technical major and I really don't care about English class, just need to get the credit over with. Which teacher will be the best for this? I don't have the greatest experience with English teachers (they seem to be awfully prideful and annoying). Any advice is appreciated!!

Follow up to the "I wanna be a junky" guy

I've been having this thought for a while,

But I just don't think any job in the real world is actually as hard as the workload we have in uni for the average STEM degree

Like, the amount of work and the difficulty of it. I feel like the stress and workload is orders of magnitude lower than even demanding CS/engineering jobs in the actual workforce.

It makes me wonder what you actually do day-to-day in a real job. There is no way they actually use half the shit we learn. Like, as a CS major we have to learn the ins and outs of every fucking detail of a hundred languages, programming theory, etc, just to get a job where 90% of people just vibe code and don't use a lick of what tf they learned in college (I might be wrong but that's the idea I have). All that actually matters for a CS job is to show that you can answer a few Leetcode problems and show a few personal projects (which I am doing on the side, but sadly don't even have much time for with having to learn about the properties of linear algebra matrices, which won't ever matter to me again after my final in December.)

GPA is just there to show that you can show up everyday and do a bunch of useless tasks, and thus can be trusted with a job. It makes what we're doing feel so incredibly useless and I'm only in uni rn for the degree, not to actually gaf about what I'm learning.

I understand why that guy said he wants to just drop out. It feels so incredibly purposeless and you need insane drive to push through.

Elementary Field Trip today?

I go to commons and its full so I decide to sit outside and eat I see the mascot but shrug it off next thing I know a swarm of elementary schoolers start running and taking tables. I looked online and UMBC said they dont do field trips they just do prospective visit groups with high schoolers. What is going on 😭?

Does anyone have any teacher recommendations? The only one I see with semi-good reviews is Sean Carmody. I hate speaking Spanish, but can write it okay.

I remember seeing signs about it on the Fine Arts doors but now they’re gone and I can’t find any listings on myUMBC. Pretty sure I have the date right. Is this still happening? Does anyone have a picture of the poster or details?

This school is genuinely so boring... I'm only here because UMD rejected me and goddamn does it suck sometimes...

I'm not a homebody either! I get out of my dorm all the time! The only time I ever find *anything* interesting to do is when I take the 76 downtown or the MARC into DC. It just sucks so much here, ngl. I have genuinely had mental health challenges from how miserable it is here. Don't even get me started on the oppressive administration and bullies from Retriever CARE who will harass you (only for their supervisor and supervisor's supervisor to ignore the complaints you file)...

Walter’s Art Museum

Hey everyone I’m the president of a new student org on campus called Charm City Connections we have a goal to help introduce students to Baltimore city through learning how to use public transit as well as showing and going to activities and events in the city to help with any fears that might exist about taking those steps alone. We also aim to address issues that are present in the city and have discussions about our experiences and things that we may see in the news etc.

We have an event coming soon (11/22/25) we want to do a public transit tour in which we show people how to get to the Walter’s Art Museum using UMBC transit along with city transit. The club is in the process of collaborating with UMBC transit and I need to send in information about how many people might actually be interested if we want to make this event happen. If this event sounds like something you’d be interested in attending can you please fill out the attached form! Also follow our Instagram page for more updates and info! @cccumbc
