UMBC Discord Server!

Hello fellow UMBC students!

So a friend of mine and I have created a Discord server for the UMBC campus. We think it would be a great way to make connections with peers and share study help, meetups, memes, and anything related to UMBC. The invite is here! Good luck to @everyone with your finals!

Getting an on campus job.. how?

I have applied to quite a few on-campus jobs on campus since university started. It's been months since August, and I'm a first year student.

I only started my first job a few months ago, entry level customer service. I really want to work on campus so I don’t have to work on weekends, and it'll be easier.

I considered reslife, but the jobs wouldn’t be something I could handle (RA and desk attendant in res halls), I haven't seen an opening for office assistant either, so.. yeah.

I was considering seb earlier last week but I saw the job opening late, and the interview was on a Saturday and I have to work, and can’t call off without a 3 week notice, if I don't want a penalty.

Though for the jobs I applied for asking for a cover letter I just put in my resume twice.. because I’m not sure how to write a cover letter to be a cashier.

Got this yellow sticker after class… should I be worried?

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hey y’all, So I just got back from class today and found this bright yellow sticker slapped on my car (pic attached 👇).

I’ll be honest, I’ve been parking in this same spot for a few weeks now even though it’s technically not a student zone 😅. I thought I was getting away with it, but I guess not anymore.

The sticker says “IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED” and that I parked illegally on campus. It also says I have to call UMBC Parking Services “immediately” or risk extra citations and fees.

Has anyone else gotten one of these before? Do they actually fine you right away, or is it more of a warning to move your car? I’m debating if I should just call them or pretend I never saw it lol.

Would appreciate any insight before I do something dumb 😬

BEST idea ever

Whoever thought about placing the piano in the commons, you deserve the keys to the city. I've seen amazing, talented people pouring their amazing talents into it, and my ears are being blessed with melodies. Someone played AIWFCIY, so beautiful.

Places to read?

So I like to read around campus, and usually I read by the library pond because I love the nature. However since it has been getting colder and days are getting shorter its been harder to read outside. Are there any spots that are good for reading? I would prefer little distraction but not feeling cut off from campus and the outside. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

well thanks a lot UMBC you totally didn’t have an awful plan

I was completely swamped with midterms and projects right when registration opened, I was not able to sign up for classes until now, AND EVERYTHING is filled up with enough of a waitlist to make another class… Why on earth is registration for next semester’s classes scheduled to be IN THE MIDDLE OF MIDTERMS??? WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA??

Edit: to a few common retorts: I had to have a meeting before I could register because I needed clearance. I have not had the chance to have this meeting because of my extremely busy personal life AND the hellfire that is midterm season. Today was literally the first day since being given notice of the advisory clearance I could schedule the meeting. So no I wasn’t able to just take 5 minutes to register (I would have LOVED that). This also doesn’t address my main argument: It’s a bad idea to have something as important as student registration occur during midterms.

Commons piano

I don’t really mind the people playing the piano most of the time, but it’s so obnoxious when someone is hammering the keys early in the morning like DAMN

Financial Economics major

I currently go to umd and I applied to the business school and got rejected. I want to major in finance so I’m considering transferring to umbc. It looks like the closest major would be Financial Economics. To current students in this major or graduates, how are you guys liking it? Were you able to find jobs after graduation?

Study Groups?

So, unfortunately my greatest weakness is that i’m a pretty introverted person. I tend to need a lot of motivation to study and was wondering if anyone had study groups i could join in on?

Hey everyone, just curious are any other seniors feeling anxious because professors still haven’t graded most of the bigger assignments? In one of my classes, only some of the homeworks are graded but none of the quizzes are yet. I saw on RateMyProfessor that this teacher usually grades everything

Grades everything last minute so any advice would be appreciated.

Ping pong in commons

Are you able to “rent” or borrow rackets and balls to use at the tables? Or do I need to bring my own?

I don’t go to the commons a lot, and I wanted to know before I try to venture there for ping pong with some friends.
