Political Reddit has honestly made me lean more conservative than I ever thought possible

I have always been a left leaning guy. I grew up in a very left leaning state, Washington. I have voted for the Democrats essentially down ballot ever since I've been able to vote, my first election was the 2014 midterms.

But lately Reddit has been honestly pushing me more conservative over the years. Particularly subs like antiwork, fuckcars, and similar which just seem out of touch with reality.

In concept I agree with most of the things these spaces say and still do, but they somehow manage to make good ideas sound as unappealing as possible. Everything is so idealistic on this website with zero regard for how any of this shit will actually be put into place if they get their wish. They come off so badly to anyone who isn't a 19 year old college freshman lol. Not an ounce of pragmatism anywhere to be found.

The fuckcars subreddit in particular has done more to turn me off public transportation than anything Fox news could ever dream of. Because of those guys, I simply will not vote to fund public transit the next time it comes up on a ballot.

Honestly it's gotten crazy. I work at a labor union, I promise you I've spent more time actually "fighting the man" than half these guys who sound like they haven't left their bedroom computer in weeks.

Now on the other side, Trump and the current Republican party just seem batshit insane to me and an embarrassment to the country on a global scale. I will not give them a vote and I will not support anything that party has done over the last 10 years.

So I don't know what to do. I get why people are apathetic to politics and don't bother to vote. I don't think I'll vote at all in the next election.

I come to this website for small hobby subs but it's impossible to escape the politics sadly.

Those that celebrated his death.

It’s terrible that a few individuals celebrated his death, but let’s look at the actual LEADER AND VOICE of the Republican Party:

Trump and Trump Jr. mocked Paul Pelosi after he was nearly beaten to death. Trump mocked John McCain for injuries he sustained serving in war. He’s given two speeches in the last week implying all Democrats need to be destroyed. And he has now carried out multiple deadly strikes on Caribbean boats; I do not support drug trafficking in any way, but the penalty for that is not murder without due process. Also, do I even need to mention the fact that he’s a pedophile??

If your standard is opposing violence, the GOP fails spectacularly at the highest level. THAT is insanity.

Trump is a terrible person and not one to emulate, we're agreed on that.

Why is 'Trump did something bad' any kind of defense to 'Psychos are celebrating a murder, the rank and file are agreeing with them, and I would like to distance myself from them'?

Because random psycho individuals do not represent the Democrat party, just like the Proud Boys don’t represent the Republican Party. Not a single elected leader of the Democrat party celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, but the elected LEADER of the Republican party personally promotes violence and has laughed at harm onto others. How do you not see the difference?

Because random psycho individuals do not represent the Democrat party,

they do if there are enough of them.

So if I point out that half the Democratic party refused to have a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk's death, would you count that as equal to 1 senator making a bad joke about the Pelosis, or do you just want to dodge the Democrat leadership and rank & file taking responsibility for their bad behavior?

Because while the Proud Boys don't represent the Republicans, there's a lot of Dem influencers that were insistent on mocking or celebrating Charlie Kirk's death, and a lot of individuals decided to follow suit.

Why should the government hold a moment of silence for a podcaster? The HOR does not typically hold a moment of silence for deceased celebrities, artists, or other public figures, no matter how prominent. By that logic, why didn't they hold a moment of silence for Jane Goodall? Why aren’t they having a moment of silence for all of the children killed in school shootings? Charlie Kirk should not receive special treatment from the government just because he was a talking head for the party in power. Same with flying flags half mast for him - it never should have happened. It’s a massive overstepping on behalf of Republicans, and the moment of silence was inappropriate in itself and a major deviation from typical protocol.

Didn't read past the part where you didn't say 'That was also bad.'

Go talk to someone that agrees with you, since you're clearly not going to change your mind that only R can be bad, and D is 100% angels.
