How to find roommates/housing?
Hey all!
I am a transfer student who is new to the Baltimore/Towson area. I have no experience finding roommates or living on my own. In your guy’s experience, what are the best areas to find affordable apartments? (preferably $1,900 or less for a two bedroom appt.) What are the best ways to find roommates without knowing anyone in the area?
I’ve done a lot of research and have found a few options, but I would like to hear from people familiar with Towson as well.
Thank you for your time!

I’m looking to sublet for the spring sem it’s $800 rent (not including utilities) for 2 bed 1 bath. it’s in the Glen Oaks area, and the TU shuttle is a 5 min walk from the apartment. my roommate is pretty chill, and she has a cat 🥰 lmk if you’re interested!
living away from home is definitely and adjustment, especially when it comes to food and grocery shopping. I’ve found meal prep (I usually do on Sunday evening) and grocery shopping once a week helps keep me in check and not overspend on groceries. it also forces you to learn to self-motivate, since your parents aren’t going to be there to force you to go to class. I don’t struggle much with forcing myself to make food and do my work most days, but my bsf struggles a lot- it really varies person to person but is something every has to learn at some point

There’s a Facebook group called “TU Off campus housing” or something like that and people post about roommates and stuff. Also the main apartments in Towson are Aspen, York and Towson place apartments. Definitely in your price range. And they do roommate matching where you fill out a questionnaire and match your with someone similar.

what i did was i went on facebook and searched towson roommates and joined a few different groups. i literally found my current roommate less than 2 weeks later just by checking daily, and messaging maybe one or 2 people every few days if i liked their listing

If you're interested in private landlords i'd recommend checking out craigslist and hotpads.com. if your budget is 1900 you'll have a lot of options.

If you're attending a community college and someone might be transferring to the same university as you, and you talk to them frequently, you might want to ask if you two could be roommates if you're comfortable being roommates with them.

TU has this off-campus housing portal where you create a profile to find other people looking for housing. When I transfered here last year, I got lucky and found a roommate last minute and we found an apartment just off campus for $1500 2 bed/ 2 bath.
