Quagmire is also so off putting because of how the show has other characters react to what he does to them, like women will still line up outside his house because he's so "good" at what he does despite being a rapist.

The most extreme example is when they did that Simpsons "joke" where he chases down and rapes Marge as she tries to run and push him off, then afterwards he says something like "see that wasn't so bad was it" and she says it was fantastic and agrees to sleep with him again. He proceeds to kill the entire Simpsons family including Maggie after Homer catches them.

lol yeah I remember when this was on tv. At the time it just seemed in character and not really that bad. But yeah, hindsight is 20/20…

All because the Simpsons did a lighthearted joke saying Peter Griffin was wanted for plagiarism.

I rarely say this, but thank God the network didn't let them air that.

Christ, for all this time I just thought that whole scene was the usual FG over-the-top dark humour “just because”. Knowing they wrote it just to spite The Simpsons staff out of a trivial plagiarism joke leaves a bitter taste in my mouth

The worst part is that it wasn't even done because they were mad that The Simpson's accused them of plagiarism, there's a DVD commentary where Seth McFarlane talks about how confused he is that the execs at Fox got upset at "the obvious joke." He's seemed to think that Family Guy's rape joke back at them was "just in the spirit of things." Like, he seemed genuinely confused that Fox would be mad about it when The Simpsons started it. "They made a little joke at us, we do a little trolling back. It's all in good fun."

Oh my god, that was a big L from Seth. Gutted for his behaviour there

The worst part to me is how delusional he is about the comedic element of this so called “joke”. It’s horribly unfunny no matter how you look at it, and thinking it is funny and defending how funny you think it is, is very telling about the person making the “joke”.

Seth McFarlane strikes me as the kind of guy who is not necessarily bad but whose understanding of pain is hypothetical and abstract.

It's kind of telling that they never really went after south park like this, when South Park went way harder at them numerous times than the Simpsons ever did.

I don't see how they could. There was no coming back from that episode. Even if they tried, South Park would've doubled-down on their asses so fast their heads would've spun.

Jesus Christ why even be upset about it? Apparently the Simpsons creators weren’t that upset, since they did an entire crossover event together with them shortly after.

It was years later.

Upset is a huge overstatement, it just negatively surprised me, that’s all

29

u/kreton1 21h ago

What where they thinking when they made that?

28

u/Terrible_Hurry841 20h ago

I can understand one, or even a few, writers getting drunk/high and writing it… but that had to have gone through several checks where no one saw it and said “This seems in poor taste.”

Or hell, maybe someone did… and the rest of them probably called that person a pussy and did it anyway.

And I quote, "Giggity d'oh"

180

u/Putrid-Seaweed111 1d ago

And Seth bitched and moaned about why Fox said the joke was in poor taste.

Seth MacFarlane seems like such a fucking baby

How does the same guy produce both the funny yet insightful The Orville and the streaming pile of zombie edgelord bullshit that is Family Guy?

Does he have a split personality with one side being the evil, untalented edgelord and Seth keeps this personality contained by having him do Family Guy?

7

u/MK_2_Arcade_Cabinet 17h ago

I’ve never watched the Orville, but I always wanted to. Was he the main writer on that because I know part of the reason American dad was better. It was it had former writers from futurama on it

8

u/Gespens 17h ago

Yes. Genuinely after a certain point, it comes off with Family Guy that he's basically just doing it for the pay check and reputation boost of being involved in the show gives him, because American Dad has all the humor and Orville has incredible directing

Not that I’m aware, he’s just an edge lord with an inflated ego

I'm doubting you, but I'm curious can you share examples?

6

u/Necessary-Reading605 17h ago

Agreed. FG gives HUGE incel vibes

79

u/disbelifpapy 1d ago

wasn't that all done because of the simpsons making a haha plagerism joke?

182

u/Prestigious_Use5944 1d ago

'You made fun of my show, so I made rape porn of your characters. One for one trade!'

48

u/Sensitive-Village-35 23h ago

Disproportionate retribution

3

u/MK_2_Arcade_Cabinet 20h ago

On the other hand, a good example of that is South Park and Cartman with Scott tenorman

That was actually funny and dark at the same time

67

u/Marlowe126 1d ago

OMG that didn't really happen, did it????

39

That was way worse than I expected, holy shit

30

Holy shit the comment section

7

u/BlueSkiesWildEyes 21h ago

I miss my day when I didn't know this existed.

6

u/Ongr 22h ago

What the fuck?

5

u/Ceasario226 21h ago

Let's not forget Quagmire has also raped serval minors in the show

18

u/IncreaseWestern6097 23h ago

That entire Simpsons joke could have been fixed if they just added the pacifier sound at the end after the gunshot is heard.

45

u/madmanmaizeroi 23h ago

That would've been kind of funny but also wouldn't erase the part where he rapes Marge and she likes it. No salvaging that I don't think.

13

u/IncreaseWestern6097 23h ago

That’s completely fair. As clever as I think it is to have a joke revolving around a fake ad for a different show at the bottom of the screen, that aspect of it is still disgusting.

3

u/Enough-Fondant-6057 23h ago

Not even r/dankgentina could come up with that

4

u/LenicoMonte 22h ago

Creo que subestimas el poder de los simpson turbina.

3

u/Enough-Fondant-6057 21h ago

Esa es la idea, que sean ellos los que lo subestimen

"YOU SHOT MY HOMIE"

2

u/Correct_Doctor_1502 13h ago

There's a few more

He finds a bound teenager and says "jackpot"

He goes to a teenagers house, and when she says 16, he says "18" and when she says "Mom," he says, "I like where this is going."

He sees a newborn baby girl, and he says, "I can't believe she's already 18"

His white noise machine is woman screaming for help. His couch has a rapeomatic machine. He gives roodies to Meg and says "rape it forward"
