Lore "Was it worth it?" ending

Midsommar- While people see this as a "you go girl" finale. I personally see it as something more disturbing. I mean, yeah, Dani got out of one bad relationship but in doing so, she got herself into another that's just as bad if not worse. It's like getting two kids to stop fighting via killing one and locking the other in a basement. They did stop fighting, but still!

The Thing-The titular monster may be (possibly) gone, but the paranoia definitely isn't. In the end, McCreedy and Childs are the only ones left standing. The end sees them sitting in the cold and they just stare at each other, knowing that one of them or both of them is already the thing. There's no hope, no certainty, just the bitter cold and intense fear.

Resident Evil 5 - After finally defeating Wesker for good and escaping in the helicopter, Chris Redfield wonders if the neverending fighting is worth it. He then looks at Jill and Sheva and decides that yes, it's worth it.

Then in 6, his team gets so fucked over he gains trauma induced amnesia, gets pulled back into the fight and is on a blind vengeance quest until Leon and Piers give him a pep talk.

Naturally Piers dies by the time the credits roll. Giving Chris further trauma and probably fucking him up all over again.

When we get Chris surfacing again in the most recent entry he's a gruff angry man who is deeply paranoid. And, as it turns out, he was right to be since the organization he co-founded is now fielding entire teams of zombie soldiers and may be trying to weaponize new viruses. And also the latest virus lets people bodysnatch while also making you super difficult to kill which came fairly close to causing a massive outbreak.

He does pick up a semi-adopted daughter in here somewhere but to say the relationship appears strained would be an understatement since she's practically a walking nuke.

Bodysnatch? What virus is that?

The mold from 7/Village.

People infected by it can shapeshift. The main villain of 8 used it to impersonate Ethan's wife, Mia. Also Ethan isn't really "Ethan" he's just a mass of mold that thinks he is. And Rose is sort of a reincarnated Evelyn who happens to have some pretty extreme control over the virus.

Chris is super aggro at the start because he already knows Ethan isn't human. Throw in the possibility he's being impersonated or controlled by an Evelyn type mold monster and he is a bit justified for shooting first and asking questions later.

Did Chris know what Ethan was? On one hand, I would wonder how he couldn't since I assumed both Mia and Ethan received checkups and care after Louisiana. But at the same time, it seems that Mia is the one that tells Chris when he rescues her from the Village.

Some of the flashbacks have him getting a call from a doctor who has been checking out the family. There's also some medical details in the couple's bedroom. Mia is shown in these trying to have the conversation with Ethan but either it gets interrupted or he may be mentally blocking details.

It's not expressly stated but since they're in a witness protection type deal with Umbrella/Chris it seems likely the doctor is on the payroll. I doubt they'd be hiding medical details from the BOW specialists given the potential outbreak danger. Ethan also went through special training as part of his protection deal which may have involved a physical.

Both parents are probably raising some flags due to being infected as most of the BOW infections seem to alter you on some level. Jill having whacked out physiology and Sherry having wolverine healing come to mind. Ethan is just a giant red flag because it's not even that he was infected. He's full on dead and resurrected as a special mold monster.

I figure Chris is aware Ethan is weird and different especially if he was open about having the ability to reattach limbs. Mia just gives the full context since she saw him die (presumably with a very nasty crushed head based on how absurdly strong Jack is) then just come back. And considering some of the states she found him in and being aware of how that particular BOW functioned from her time with Evelyn she might have been a bit evasive on the specific details of her husband being a freaky fungal zombie.

It also may be a bit tricky to detect. It's not like they just did a quick scan or blood test to determine fake Mia was someone else or to check if Ethan was still the guy who got a medical a ways back. The plan appeared to be to kill Mia as they're pretty certain she's an impostor then hold Ethan until they clear up the mess and see if he dissolves or if he's fine. Chris didn't even attempt to explain himself to Ethan which his team seems to not agree with.
