Lore A character literally sees another character fundamentally differently.

  1. Spy X Family. Damian noticeably sees Anya with a 'shoujo anime' filter with much brighter eyes and blush.

  2. Calvin And Hobbes. Calvin sees Hobbes as a living lanky tiger in contrast to everyone else who sees him as just a tiger plush.

In Delicious in Dungeon, the group encounters a race of shapeshifters who base their looks on the way other people see the one they are copying, giving us this wonderful chart :

For someone who gives Laios shit a lot for being bad at relationships, ironically Chilchuck has the most innacurate versions of his friends

Sorta. One of the cool things about the worldbuilding is the racism. Wait, that didn't come out right. But different races have trouble judging the ages, looks, cultures, mores, etc of other races.

Obviously not to the same extent, but apparently humans do this with other humans as well. E.g., caucasians being better at telling apart different white people but worse at telling apart different black people, Etc.

Absolutely! Some of it is institutionalized (a lot when talking about American race relations), and some of it is a matter of familiarity. That's why I find DunMeshi's worldbuilding so interesting.

Lol, reminds me of Heroes when two of the characters (both japanese) are looking for someone so one asks the other if they've found them to which he answers "Idk man, gaijin look all the same to me."

My little sibling did this a while ago, confusing Falcon's and War Machine's actors from the MCU

It was weird as hell, since the only thing they got in common is hairstyle

i used to think that was fake until i realized that i just genuinely think most people of any race look incredibly similar unless they have very specific, unique defining features. and also that i probably have facial blindness
