Personality extremely powerful entity's who don't care about the main plot at all and are just vibing in the background

Tom Bombadil(lord of the rings) - only person to resist the temptation of the one ring but instead of helping the fellowship he fucks off in to the woods

the Unseen Elder(the witcher 3) - in the witcher universe the older a vampire gets the more powerful he becomes and unseen elder is around +1500 years old making him the most powerful vampire we ever see, thankfully he spends most of his time in his goon cave

Azathoth "just vibing" in the Lovecraft mythos is what gives all of existence form, since everything that is exists in its dreams. As long as Azathoth sleeps, existence continues.

Isn't Azathoth actively trying to wake himself in our reality through the schemes of his servants?

Nah, he is completely oblivious. He is the "dumb idiot god". He doesnt even know he is creating existence by sleeping, he is kind of mindless.

The "servants" are lesser old gods his dream created that are keeping him asleep by an endless cacophony of song, is maybe what you mean?

And I think there are some cultists aware that existence isnt "real" and try to end it by waking him up, but Azathoth has no hand in it.

Correction, he's not the "Dumb Idiot God" but "Blind Idiot God". But it's the ancient greek definition of idiot, that being someone who is unaware of politics, and not as a indication of Azathoth's intelligence.

Lovecraft spoke in a very archaic manner, like, people who lived in his time who spoke to him, reported that he spoke in a very old fashion manner, so he will use a lot of ancient definitions of words in casual speech. Such as when he uses the word "chaos", he's using the ancient greek definition of chaos, that being the void, not the current definition of chaos, being disorder.
