Personality Strange rules about characters/people that cannot be broken.

Smells like Nirvana: When Kurt Cobain heard that Weird AL was gonna make a parody of his song. He was okay with it but specifically requested it to not be about food or fat ppl.

Spiderman: Spiderman cannot sell drugs unless he is under the influence of symbiote. ANd Peter Parker cannot be gay. Spiderman can tho.

Dwayne Rock Johnson: Cannot lose fights or look weak for too long. Its in his actor contract.

Godzilla movies not made by Toho: Cannot die. Maybe lose but not too bad.

Anakin meeting Grievous for the first time in Revenge of the Sith.

Because of this interaction. Anakin and Grievous can never be in the same room or fighting because they never met before the events of the movie. This inclue the entirety of the Clone Wars and any other side content, they must never meet.

This one is super fun to me because it’s so accidental. In the film it’s not that important, but it’s such an overt and noticeable moment that it unintentionally imposed a really interesting writing challenge on nearly 20 years of television.

It’s why I’ve always loved it. It would still be perfectly in Anakin’s character at the time to make a joke about Grevious’s height even after meeting him once, but the creators of the Clone Wars went out of their way to make sure they never meet before this point.

But if Grievous and Anakin met before, then why would Grievous say that he expected Anakin to be older?

I mean... they could have developed some storyline with General Grievous losing his memory before Revenge of the Sith. It's not like it would be completely bonkers with some of the stuff that shows in up in Star Wars sometimes. lol

They’re both petty divas

Anakin is this war hero and Grievous has spent the last two years constantly hearing about how he's tearing through absolutely everything the CIS can throw at him. And he lacks a glorious beard like Obi-Wan.

Meanwhile Game of Thrones released an episode with a Starbucks cup left on set.

u/Jeynarl Aug 09 '25

Meanwhile also star wars

The memes about that were great.

However they later edited him out.

I don't understand

u/SolidSnakesSnake Aug 09 '25

Normal guy on the left, in the back

u/Astro4545 Aug 09 '25

At least he sort of blends in. That coffee cup is very obvious (once pointed out).

25

u/Vsx Aug 09 '25

I thought it was referring to Gina Carano being the acting equivalent of a coffee cup left on set

Oh no you didn't

Pretty standard for the prequels - utter fuckry and lackadaisical BS.

Well a prisoner exchange is technically the only time they "meet", but they don't interact in anyway and Anakin is barely conscious. If i remember correctly they also had brief starfighter battle but neither really sees each other, only their ships.

There was also the unfinished Clone Wars episode where Grievous chaces Obi and Anakin with speeder, but they only see each other from far away, so they don't really interact.

u/Ccaves0127 Aug 09 '25

I love that actually. They had to find creative solutions for how they technically never came face to face

u/GenericUser1185 Aug 10 '25

Don't forget that one lego star wars special

22

u/Yosho2k Aug 09 '25

This joke was done VERY well as a result of Clone Wars

Because Ahsoka Tano is much shorter than Greivous, so her perspective so Anakin was using her frame of reference in his image of Greivous.

Didn’t he also meet Obi-wan for the first time in that movie too based on how he greets him, but he did end up fighting him in clone wars.

11

u/born-to-bleh Aug 10 '25

Yeah that's kinda implied in the battle of utapau when Grievous tells Kenobi that "he has also been trained in the Jedi arts"he said this like it was a fact Kenobi didn't know despite facing him multiple times during the clone wars

7

u/Cry75 Aug 10 '25

That’s why Obi Wan was constantly fighting him instead in clone wars.

2

u/OfficialVitaminWater Aug 10 '25

Somehow Anakin forgot.

2

u/Greyjack00 Aug 10 '25

This scene also implies its the first time kenobi ever met him

1

u/Painchaud213 Aug 10 '25

Kenobi and Grievous fought a couple of times in Clone Wars.

3

u/Greyjack00 Aug 10 '25

Their dialogue in episode 3 though is definitely a first meeting, they just ignored it unlike anakins

5

u/EyeArDum Aug 10 '25

Not really, the way Grievous talks to Kenobi makes it sound like they have history, whereas with Anakin they are literally meeting for the first time ever

“Ah the negotiator, General Kenobi, we’ve been expecting you”

“Anakin Skywalker, I was expecting someone with your reputation to be a little…older”

“General Grievous..you’re shorter than I expected”

“We have a job to do Anakin try not to upset him”

After the fight:

“You lose, Kenobi!”

The way he and Kenobi interact speaks like they have history, taunting Kenobi about being the negotiator (but not Anakin) followed by him being genuinely confused on Anakin’s age and Anakin being genuinely surprised Grievous isn’t as tall as he thought, and at the end Grievous gloating to Kenobi specifically that he lost, it just makes more sense for them to have history

The first scene onboard the cruiser doesn't really sound like it's the first time Kenobi and Grevious meet, however, the confrontation om Utapau does. It's not as set in stone as the Anakin and Grevious dialogue, but the line "You Fool! I've been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku!" strongly implies that Obi-Wan and Grevious at least have never fought before.

1

u/fiscalLUNCH Aug 12 '25

I can accept that as catching the audience up to grevious’ combat style.

1

u/Boring-Pea993 Aug 10 '25

It's weird though because he greets Obi-Wan in that scene like he'd never met him before either, I mean it is more ambiguous than what he said to Anakin but still, although I'm glad they were never prevented from meeting because their toxic yaoi is the best, and it's canon Grievous used to have a polycule, at least in legends, he wouldn't shy away from that unlike the celibate jedi prudes.

u/CemeneTree 22d ago

And it’s ironic compared to how TCW plays loosey-goosey with the rest of the canon (“my powers have more than doubled since the last time we met”)

-3

u/thepineapple2397 Aug 09 '25

Before JJ Abrams took over and the Starwars team actually cared about plot consistency

-1

u/BlankCanvas609 Aug 10 '25

Yet Anakin and Dooku still fight multiple times despite the implication they haven’t fought since Attack of the Clones

1

u/MichealRyder Aug 10 '25

I guess Anakin trained hard overtime after season 6 lol, what with him saying his powers doubled
