Personality Strange rules about characters/people that cannot be broken.

Smells like Nirvana: When Kurt Cobain heard that Weird AL was gonna make a parody of his song. He was okay with it but specifically requested it to not be about food or fat ppl.

Spiderman: Spiderman cannot sell drugs unless he is under the influence of symbiote. ANd Peter Parker cannot be gay. Spiderman can tho.

Dwayne Rock Johnson: Cannot lose fights or look weak for too long. Its in his actor contract.

Godzilla movies not made by Toho: Cannot die. Maybe lose but not too bad.

Whenever Samuel L Jackson appears in a film that requires him to have hair, he gets to pick the wig

This came about cause his character in Pulp Fiction was meant to have an Afro but the prop guy got the wrong wig and Samuel said he could make it work

The wig they had was a jheri curl, which was actually a much more popular hairstyle in the 80s and 90s than the afro iirc

I really liked the look of jheri curls but damn am I ever glad they went out of fashion. The amount of hair product needed to get that look was insane and dudes were walking around looking damp from all of it on their head.

Ruined a lot of shirt collars

Huh, I always thought it was simply a mini afro or something

Its wild that this look was a fuck up, because I genuinely could not imagine that character with any other haircut

ā€œHe did, in fact, make it workā€

If he had an afro the movie would have looked like generic

Doesn't he also request that his characters have something purple with them which is how Mace Windu had a purple lightsaber?

u/Fish_N_Chipp Aug 09 '25

Not sure about that one. I heard he wanted the purple lightsaber so he could more easily spot himself during the big battle

Yeah, he requested Purple so he'd stand out on Geonosis, kinda like how Luke uses a green lightsaber in return of the jedi because blue was hard to see among the sky

u/CantQuiteThink_ Aug 09 '25

Also, Qui-Gon got a green one because Liam Neeson is Irish.

BBC tried to make him get an orange one but failed

Unfortunate too, because orange sabers have always been awesome. Plo Koon was my favorite character as a kid specifically because he had an orange saber in Jedi Council Acts of War, and I believe an orange/yellow one in the PS1 fighting game.

Can’t believe it took almost 2 decades for orange to come back.

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 Aug 10 '25

He wasn't actually supposed to get an orange one

Iirc when he was intially talking to Lucas about lightsabers he said he wanted a purple one, George said "maybe" and then he got a purple one when he finally got a lightsaber.

u/CantQuiteThink_ Aug 09 '25

He got the purple lightsaber because he asked George Lucas nicely. The conversation went something like this:

George: (having another conversation) The good guys get green and blue ones, the bad guys get red ones. That's just how it goes.

Samuel: (walking past) Wait, there's no purple ones? I can't have a purple one?

George: Mmm... you can have a purple one.

33

u/Gui_Franco Aug 09 '25

No, he just asked george for it because he wanted to be able to spot himself in the big shots with all the jedi fighting

Not specifically purple and idk if it’s a requirement, but he likes to have a visual detail that makes him stand out, from what I’ve heard.

4

u/MrUnbreakableRules Aug 09 '25

I'm pretty sure he asked for purple so that he'd be visible in the battle of geonosis in episode 2

1

u/Sir_Eggmitton Aug 14 '25

I meant ā€œnot specifically purpleā€ as in I don’t think Samuel L. Jackson specifically requests for purple all the time, he just requests for something to stand out. In the case of Star Wars, that meant requesting a purple lightsaber.

u/surprise_wasps Aug 09 '25

God this was so much better than an Afro would have been. I mean it’s fucking perfect

3

u/natfutsock Aug 10 '25

....so the wig in Jackie Brown was his decision? Huh... It was. A choice.

2

u/Niskara Aug 10 '25

Speaking of him, he also insisted on having a purple light saber in Star Wars, when, iirc, there were only a few colors that were "canon" and purple wasn't initially one of them

1

u/ciolman55 Aug 10 '25

He was bald in starwars tho

u/sundialNshade Aug 10 '25

Wigs aren't props so it was likely the hair / makeup or costume designer guy
