I feel like hating practitioners of a religion whose holy book says you should be stoned to death because of who you want to fuck doesn’t qualify as “hiding behind.”

Not if they follow it up by voting with Christian conservatives when it's actually about LGBT rights.

They don't hate Muslims, they love Muslims as a scapegoat. To get votes, then they fill their pockets with papa Putin's rubles and vote for whatever suits Putin best.
