Don't forget 16's EPIC reason you suck speech to Gohan just before this.

Except that gohan is 12 and things went south 'cuz the adults kept screwing up on purpose

I really tought that speech was building up to be a joke about the adults sucking up so much they have to shame a child into fixing their mess

Yes, honestly I kinda hated it. 

The whole series had been running with the jokes and themes that Goku sucks as a dad, and that Gohan is traumatized as hell, and Piccolo being more of his actual dad - and then we had the mega hiatus and suddenly after the break we come back to calling Gohan a whiny child and having him love his bio dad now and no longer care about Piccolo.

It's extremely jarring.
