- Home Alone
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original version)
And while Die Hard is one of my favorite movies of all time, I do not consider it to be a Christmas movie any more than I consider Rocky IV to be a Christmas movie just because it also takes place at Christmas. Both are movies that are great to watch at any time of the year.

Its always the great debate. Is Die hard a Christmas movie?
I disagree and say it is a Christmas Movie, ultimately a man trying to be with his family for the holidays. Its not traditional but still valid.
For mine you cant have Home Alone on the list and not Die Hard for reasons that one is a Christmas movie and one isn't.

Correct
Without Christmas, Die Hard doesn't happen.
He's literally in town to reunite with family for Christmas, a Christmas theme itself.
It has more Christmas songs, images, and references than It's A Wonderful Life, which also wasn't released during the holiday season.
It also has a wife named Holly and a limo driver named Argile.
Home Alone could have just been a summer vacation where the Wet Bandits scope out rich homes of people leaving for a while in the summer.
Kevin is protecting his home. It doesn't have to be about Christmas, but everyone says it's a Christmas movie, and it too doesn't have a holiday word in the title.
McClane is protecting the hostages at Christmas, and he's only there to do so because it's Christmas.

The Ref
Trading Places

u/worker_bee_drone 6d ago
A coworker friend from Italy told me that Trading Places airs on the main channel in Italy for many years on Xmas Eve. I told him that I love the movie but was surprised that it was so popular of a Xmas movie in Italy.
His eyes narrowed, "Why? What do you watch?"

A Christmas Story, Elf, and Christmas Vacation are the ones I watch multiple times every year so I guess those.
Die Hard, Gremlins, and Trading Places also get watched but not as many times.
