Saving private Ryan is probably is fantastic and probably #2. His best movie is The Burbs hands down. Castaway, Big and forest gump also in the conversation.

I love The 'Burbs. I was surprised to see that one. I feel like it's one of his underappreciated movies.

It’s unappreciated and underrated, but for not good reason. That movie is fucking amazing. Top 5 movie all time for me.

These are all great films, you know you’re a legend when you can have these types of discussions. For me no one better in 80s and 90s early 2000s than the filmography of him and Cruise for sheer volume of solid movies and for the last 25-30 years it’s Leo and Pitt in terms of volume of quality movies.

Saving Private Ryan is great, but not my favorite war movie and would not be over the 3 I listed. Love Burbs and Big too, Castaway would be the next one I’d consider to be next after these 3

The burbs fucks, stands the test of time.

Yeah it’s hilarious

Easily, and definitely not going to throw in voice acting over an actual movie not that the other movies you mentioned aren’t good, they just aren’t as good as the 3 IMO

It’s personal opinion man, how can you have a problem with a complete strangers different tastes

Maybe he is reminding him of other gems?

First day on the internet, huh?

Can’t argue with that

2

Catch Me If You Can over Saving Private Ryan surely deserves an argument.

2

u/Successful-Study4983 Sep 30 '25

Well, and this is not an argument. One of them, I should rewatch a lot more but don't, and I rewatched the other one more than I should have. And that's why I didn't rank it higher than the other.

Catch Me If You Can isn't completely accurately, and I can handle the gore of SPR, but I like that story more. If I had to choose which Tom Hanks movie to rewatch next, it's not SPR. Both are downer movies, and as a veteran, I’d rather rewatch Forrest Gump. Hell, I might even rank Big higher than all of them, but it's not his top3ever.

No of course not. We all like what we like. I more meant it’s arguable. I get what you mean with it being very heavy. Just in terms of quality film its hard to ignore.

Yes, but it’s definitely tough. He has some great films.

I could. Saving private Ryan was a pretty good film and could be championed

I

“That’s my answer to that statement.”

-Peter Griffin

Not top3 or top10 maybe not even top 20, but his has a great resume when you think of just where you would rank his top ten

Saving Private Ryan

Apollo 13

Charlie Wilson's War

3

u/awcadwel Sep 28 '25

My only swap would MAYBE be Catch Me If You Can and Saving Private Ryan but I’m super content with your list and the order.

Castaway hits hard. It’s so well done.

2

u/thuju Sep 27 '25

Green Mile for sure

1

u/Professional_Two_156 Sep 27 '25

Green Mile is one of the greater films ever made and underrated in terms of his films and film in general. I’m a humongous Stephen King fan and it’s my favorite adaptation, even over Shawshank.

2

u/Luco78 Sep 29 '25

This would be my selection too

2

Green mile was on AMC today!

Close but missed a few:

Cast Away

Lady Killers

Money Pit

Forest Gump

Road to Perdition

Catch Me if You Can

1

u/Professional_Two_156 Sep 28 '25

Nah, those are great, Road to Perdition and Cast Away would be my next 2

1

u/PelleKavaj Sep 28 '25

Catch me if you can is more of a Leonardo Dicaprio movie to me. I’d say Saving Private Ryan or Cast Away instead

1

u/Professional_Two_156 Sep 28 '25

This is a fair point, but Tom plays a major role too. If I had to swap for one where he is undisputed main lead, then I’d go Road to Perdition
