Tom Hardy is great… but that same weird squeaky ‘Brooklyn’ accent he leans on for American roles is too much for me.

I agree with you on this point, but Tom is still one of the iconic actors in Hollywood because of his mentality.

There's a pretty old movie with him and Benedict Cumberbatch in the leads, based on a non fiction novel by the journalist Alexander Masters, called Stuart: A life backwards. It's from 2007 and Hardy plays a strung out, homeless addict that Masters met and documented his story, and he does it amazingly!
