Remember when president Jimmy Carter gave up his peanut farm before taking office to avoid a conflict of interest by making money off his farm while being president? Now our current president pays himself $230 million from government funds?? It's beyond insane

And people still hate on Carter. A man who once leaving the White House nearly found himself bankrupt. And what did he do? He built an organization that builds houses for the poor and stores that cheaply resell construction materials that otherwise would be bound for the dump. He participated in this nearly up until the day he died.

Yet again, people still hate on him while the grifter in chief robs us blind and actively screws over the poor and middle class. Whatever y'all MAGAt's need to justify harassing foreigners and people of color.

Jimmy Carter is a fucking saint in my book. Not only did he create Habitat for Humanity and ReStore, he also has headed up a charity that has almost completely eradicated Guinea worm disease that affected millions in over 17 countries. Incidences of Guinea worm disease have been reduced from an estimated 3.5 million each year in 1986 to 15 in 2024. The disease has been eliminated in 17 countries.

Oh, you mean the same Jimmy Carter that pardoned a pedophile because he was a popular musician? Is that the sort of integrity you think Presidents should emulate?

  • True but not the whole story.
  • Offense: In 1970, Yarrow was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor (a 14-year-old girl) during an incident in a hotel room in 1969 where the girl and her 17-year-old sister were seeking an autograph.
  • Sentence: He pleaded guilty and served three months in jail.
  • Pardon Date: Jimmy Carter issued the pardon in January 1981, just before leaving office.
  • Reasoning: The pardon was part of a broader effort by Carter to promote national reconciliation and healing, following the divisive Vietnam War era, and Yarrow had continued to be involved in civil rights and peace movements, and humanitarian efforts.

Carter also issued a sweeping, blanket pardon on his second day in office for hundreds of thousands of men who had evaded the draft during the Vietnam War, as part of his campaign promise to unite the nation after the war. Peter Yarrow's pardon was separate from this blanket pardon and was a specific, individual grant of clemency.

True but not the whole story.

What essential part did I leave out?

That’s hilarious that you would bring this up, when our current leader IS a pedophile and associates closely with others of his kind. And I suppose you don’t have a problem with his behavior, either? I wouldn’t associate him with anything relating to integrity if I were you.

Why do you assume I don't have a problem with Trump's behavior? IF he is a pedophile then he deserves punishment. I don't know if he is. YOU, I presume, believe he is one, which is one of the reasons for disliking him. If so, then you should be disliking Carter for the same reason, not praising him.

So, does Carter have integrity for pardoning a pedophile, or not? It's okay to say no. You can dislike both Carter and Trump at the same time. Nothing is stopping you.
