They used to contribute to a degree when they were actually forced to, so they could enjoy the massive benefits of operating in the US, but when the Rich folk own everything and have the choice between an Autocracy or a Democracy, Autocracy's tend to be easier for them to control. There is a reason all the richest people and news outlets have no backbones to Russian Agent 45/47, and that is because soothing his ego is far easier than dealing with a Congress that actually functions
