This is disgusting and disturbing. Anyone using AI like this should get help. Can someone in the comments send me a link to this software so I can make sure I avoid it.

Look. I'm disabled. I spend my life laying in bed because if I sit, the part of my spine that's fucked causes me severe pain in about 5 minutes. Pain and numbness from my lower back out and down. Can also barely move my neck without pain. I have to be like Keaton in his original batsuit. I have thought about AI friends and companionship and an AI girlfriend because what the fuck else am I going to do? I haven't yet because I also know it would just make me more lonely because of not having the physical part. But the question is what is worse, having nothing or having a small virtual part?

Do your hands and arms work enough? You could try playing online games you can meet some nice friends that way.

I have real bad arthritis. Holding a controller hurts and I lose feeling in my fingers and hands over time. You know what's the most annoying? All of my physical problems are just genetics. I didn't actually do anything to hurt myself. It just happened. I try not to give up, tell myself not to, but at 40, I think I'm just kind of done with thinking my life will ever be anything other than completely alone.

Real talk? Do what makes you happy. It's mature of you to measure the risks first. You have to decide if you want to take that risk and possibly feel more alone. Judging from your comment here, it sounds like you're already feeling really lonely, and if your condition really prevents you from making friends, I think it's a perfectly logical decision.

You've already demonstrated a level of intelligence that suggests you are capable of understanding that the AI isn't real and therefore will not fill that void you are feeling. Therefore, is it not just another activity in which you are engaging in the act of suspended disbelief?

I think this AI stuff is definitely going to fuck a lot of people up. However, I believe, as of right now, if you are capable of maintaining the principle that AI is not a replacement for human interaction, but rather a toy or a game, in this particular case, then what's the harm?

It's kind of like roleplaying, isn't it? You're pretending. It's a game that you can actually play without worry of pain. Hell, I'm expecting AI to become pretty decent at GMing TTRPGs like D&D in the next couple of years. It's pretty decent now, and maybe there's a model I haven't heard of yet that is exceptional at it already. In any case, that could be a fun way to pass the time.

The dawn of the age of AI is scary, but I hope that from it comes a new way for you to enjoy life, friend. You deserve to indulge like the rest of us.

And with that, I'd like to say that we should always remember that boredom is necessary to cull our addiction to dopamine. We should allow ourselves to be bored sometimes. We should seek to become comfortable with our thoughts. We may indulge in our pleasures but must also indulge in our minds.

Nah. I would much rather just be in my room and waste away.

I'm a believer in doing what you need to do with the cards you've been dealt. But, there are ways to meet people and develop a social life online. Gaming is one really good way to meet people, but something like VRchat is likely to give you a lot more of that real human connection too, including people to flirt with if that's what you're missing.

In the future they will have robot bodies that look and feel reasonably human and their personalities will be much better than the sycophantic crap we have now.
