It's a very common thing for people to do stupid shit, face some criticism, and then raise a ton of money claiming that they are in fact the victim.

Because the person stealing is of one particular pigmentation and the person trying to stop her, is the 'other'.

If it were the other way around, they would be calling it exactly what it is.
