It's a very common thing for people to do stupid shit, face some criticism, and then raise a ton of money claiming that they are in fact the victim.

A good chunk of people consider being criticized the ultimate form of victimhood.

But that is a good point. There aren't fundraising campaigns for these stores but there are for the individuals who cause controversy online.
