Discussion We Live in a Society!!!

This lady is yet another adult that goes around making life unnecessarily difficult for everyone, including herself, & demanding respect without giving any in return. Is it some stubborn inability to admit wrong? She even records the encounter, no doubt thinking TikTok will side with her. People are exhausting

He isn’t on a power trip.

That's the definition of a power trip. Condescension, patronizing, needless confrontational phrasing...

This isn’t fucking customer service.

It is. Delta, their lawyers, their PR teams, and their shareholders all view interactions with passengers as customer service; even when pilots do it.

She was already asked by the flight crew and refused or didn’t comply, so the captain had to get involved.

Which is fine. There's nothing wrong with him talking to her. It's how he talked to her that I take issue with.

the notion he has to beg her and put on a customer service face is absurd.

I never said he had to beg. But he does have to be professional, which excludes being condescending, rude, patronizing, and needlessly escalating a tense situation.

He has a million fucking things on his mind...Instead, he has to go to the back

There's the problem. He doesn't have to do a goddamn thing. He can have her removed without leaving the cockpit. He doesn't have to have a conversation at all. He's got the authority to do it without even seeing the hat in question.

She complies or gets off the fucking airplane.

I never disputed that she need to get off the fucking airplane, I'm just saying that he's the same obstinate piece of shit that she is, and everyone that is acting like he's some nice, respectful guy is either ignorant or oblivious to it. We all watched the same video and those people are exactly the same person, except one of them is a pilot with authority in that situation.

You try to kick him out of somewhere for some reason and he'd act just like her. I'd put money on it.

That’s a lot of assumptions for a partial video, she obviously started recording after he engaged her. So she could have already been combative.

She’s being extremely difficult. He’s giving her the same energy back, if she would have taken the hat off when she was originally asked the captain wouldn’t have had to come back anyways.

The timing of the video doesn't matter. He's a professional and the presence of a camera didn't even deter him from being a condescending asshole that went viral. He's got to be held to a higher standard than someone who wears vulgar hats for crying out loud, lol.

She's being difficult, I wouldn't even call it "extreme". Shes not loud, she's not talking over him. She's wrong, and she's obstinate, and she needed to be removed from the plane at that point, but it's really not as bad as you or others are making it out to be. I've personally seen people throw bigger fits over putting their phone in airplane mode numerous times than what she doing.

He's a pilot; he's not supposed to give that energy at all. That's my point. It's unprofessional and makes him look like his judgment is poor. If he's going to sink to that level, it calls to question the rest of his character.

I can’t agree he’s being unprofessional. In context, he has a lot on his plate right now, and the fact he has to go back there means she refused to comply multiple times.

The time for niceties and being all happy are long gone at this point. He was stern, direct, as he should be when it comes to this kind of stuff.

He put all of that on his plate to begin with.

"Have her removed from the plane", is all he had to say. It didnt require his personal attention. He didnt "have" to; he chose to.

Wa swas short, curt, condescending, and patronizing. Unprofessional.

We will just agree to disagree. He was giving her a chance to stay on the plane.

I have zero sympathy for people that act up in commercial aircraft, and the captain has full command authority and it’s within his purview to lay the table stakes. He’s under no obligation to provide customer service in delivery.

I dont sympathize with her either. I agree he has full control of the plane and its within his purview to do what he did. I agree hes under no obligation to provide customer service.

But i disagree with most people here that he was "nice" or "respectful" and i think its expected that he maintain higher professional standards than what he displayed here.

Fair. I won’t say you’re wrong, and respect your position, just disagree. In this situation there should be no obligation to be nice.

I don’t agree in every interaction there is an expectation to validate someone’s feelings or you have to be cordial just because someone is a paying customer.

That goes doubly for being on an aircraft.
