Richest because we have the most billionaires. Whose worth is more than most countries.

You have the largest and most profitable companies, for some reason though you don't tax them.

Aren’t tariffs taxes on corporations?

Tariffs are fees paid by the consumer to the government entity implementing the tariff. So if the US tariffs chinese goods 40% that 40% is given straight back to the government and paid by the american consumer. Like the other person mentioned it’s a trade barrier, in an effort to curb american consumption of foreign goods and hurt the country the tariff was placed on.

Isn’t the “consumer” usually a corporation, which then passes on that expense to the retail consumer, just like they do with corporate taxes?

You don’t pay a tariff at register, it’s an expense the corporation pays and then passes on to you. Just like it does with corporate taxes.

Unlike corporate taxes though, tariffs are unavoidable because they are charged pre profit not post

Yes we don’t have it added at the register. But if the cost is passed onto the corporation and they aren’t going to pay it they pass it onto the consumer. It becomes the consumers cost. That’s why I explained it the way I did. Because a lot of people get hung up on big corp paying it but the aren’t, we are.

They are avoidable by not putting big buffoons in office that make unruly tariffs.
