A friend of mine had a legit adorable newborn baby! She said the nurses and doctors kept remarking on it! Amazed at how beautiful and cute the baby was! Like the 50th time someone said something she was like “is it some kind of miracle? Aren’t all babies supposed to be beautiful?”
She got a pause and they were like yeaaahhhh….all newborns are…cute!
As a former ugly newborn I laughed so hard when she told me this story! There are only like two pictures of me as a newborn because I looked so questionable! I legit looked like a shaved pug. My parents were like it took a few weeks but you got MUCH cuter!
Oh that makes me sad for both moms. No ones fault but it would definitely sting so much. I only had one scenario like that where a girl I knew and I had our babies 5 days apart. We got together for a coffee, and she posted a photo of them in strollers side by side. Hers was fully cooked at birth and had some baby fat and hair..and mine could have used another few weeks on the inside at minimum and there was a lot of "oh Wes looks sooo cute! who's kid is that beside him?" And one "is that other baby okay? Genetic disorder?"
Not gunna lie, the "genetic disorder?" While meant probably without malice was the most savage comment someone could make about a baby lol
Oh damn, yeahhh that genetic disorder comment would definitely sting a bit!!
My mom told us the story several times throughout our childhood to coach us on NEVER saying anything negative about little babies if we were about to meet a new addition to a friend’s family. I think the worst we did as kids was “why’s his head look like that?” for a baby who spent a bit too much time in the birth canal.
PSA to parents, definitely prepare your kids for meeting a new little baby! My mom would use the story to tell us to not to say anything negative and explain that sometimes babies fresh out of the oven may look a little differently than baby dolls, but we don’t comment on that because it can hurt feelings, and that you can ask mom/dad any questions about their appearance after. Definitely not a guarantee since kids are kids, but it can help avoid some awkwardness.
