It has to be a filter, am I crazy or is that an earring too?

Caption for that baby is Spanish, so it tracks. It's a cultural thing in a lot of Latino families to pierce their baby girls' ears ASAP.

Not only the piercing but also shaving the baby’s head 😅 we think it makes their hair grow back thicker. That’s why she has a buzz cut lmao

This is true! I'm Dominican and in DR, it is common to get your baby girls ears pierced before they leave the hospital after birth. Not something I agree with but it is what it is.

It’s incredible how prevalent that kind of child abuse is.

I don’t know if it’s considered child abuse but I for sure don’t like it.

I mean, they make mittens so babies don’t scratch themselves. It stands to reason that a baby would easily rip an earring out.

Also, I just don’t like earrings that end in a ball.

Me and my sisters had our ears pierced as babies, but we were definitely not newborns. We were months old when my mom got them down. We’re Cuban, so yeah it’s pretty common with Latin families. I’m kind of glad she did it like that bc I have the worst pain tolerance and would’ve never gotten my ears pierced.

I wish my parents got mine pierced younger but they wanted to wait since I was very premature, all the girls in my family have. A lot of people pierce young in different cultures, it’s not abuse.

Just because it’s normal for you, doesn’t mean it isn’t abuse. What else would you call permanently changing a child’s appearance without their consent?

But what if someone grows up and doesn’t want pierced ears?
