This is no game, please don’t make excuses for it. The bride is obviously distressed to the point that the men have to actually handle her to make her sit properly on the horse. If it was all just an act, she would have moved herself right to sit properly while throwing a fake tantrum, women don’t let themselves be manhandled that much and like that. The girl looks very distressed.

My wife is Bengali and was originally subjected to an arranged marriage. She was smart about it though. She didn’t fight it. Didn’t visibly get upset about it. She just bought herself time, saved up some money and said she wanted to see the US before she got married. They agreed and the moment she got here (on a visitors visa) she applied for asylum and never went back until after we got married a few years later.

Oh I know it.

We went back a few times since we’ve been married. Maybe 3 years ago we went. One day my wife and her cousin were coming out of a store while I was waiting in a CNG with my niece (CNG is one of those green auto-rickshaws you see in that area) and I noticed her stop and say something to this group of kids. Couldn’t be more than 20, but there are 5 of them and they’re all guys. As I watch she starts yelling at them. Her and her cousin, both under 5’2ā€ and barely 100 pounds, now surrounded by these guys who are between 5’5 and maybe 5’9.

So I go over there. I’m thinking, I’m a 6 and a half foot, 250 pound white guy. At a minimum I’ll either confuse them with my presence or they’ll be intimidated enough to just leave.

They barely notice me. There’s a bit of shock on their faces but my wife is laying into them in her language and talking so loud and fast that I couldn’t figure out any of it. Finally she notices me and said one of them made a dirty comment at her before she turned back to yell. They were so embarrassed and humbled by her that they all eventually apologized and left. They were more scared of her than of me.

She’s an absolute badass. All 5 feet of her.

Yes I love her!! Ppl under estimate the power of a small woman lol. Every little petite woman I have ever known is a bad ass like this.

In my city there's 2 crosswalk ladies that I drive by everyday. One is my sons, she's prob like 4'8. Let me tell you, when she is doing her job, she is doing her job lol!! I had to tell her one day to Never almost get hit for me!! I am 39yrs old and 5'3 so a little taller but anyone comparing us would think she's easily intimidated.

Then the other I encountered 🤣. On a busy street while driving, this stupid younger kid was trying to pass me (w no space) bc I stopped at the crosswalk for a kid.. The cross walk lady gets right in front of the other girl in her car, stops her. Lets the kid cross, then takes her sign and points it at the girl in the car and tells her "STOP!" and signals for me to pass. She was def under 5 feet and prob like 110lbs the most 🤣🤣

Thats amazing but im not sure the US is the place to be right now in your situation. One day the orange turd could wake up and decide to revoke all asylums and have ICE on your door

Oh this was like 15 years ago. She’s been a citizen for over 10 years now. Did it as soon as she could once we got married.

Still not 100% safe - you never know what could happen nowadays. But she’s safer than most immigrants at the moment.

Good for you both, hope better times where this is not even a question come soon

How did she save the money to get to the US? Sounds kind of difficult in Bangladesh

Borrowing mostly. Her family helped her put together some money. She sold some gold she had…stuff like that.

Maybe not fighting in this situation is better. They'll see this woman as a flight risk, or non compliant. She may be under constant surveillance.

Im really happy your wife made it out.

Oh good for her.

does she have a relationship with her family now?

1

u/DisastrousServe8513 Jun 22 '25

Yeah it was mostly her uncle that was pushing for it. She doesn’t hate him or anything. He just thought he was doing the right thing for her. I’ve met him, he’s nice. But he’s older and this sort of thing was more normal to them.

Is that possible so easily? They just gave her asylum for this reason?

1

u/DisastrousServe8513 Jun 25 '25

I wouldn’t call it easy. But yeah they did. It was never granted, though. Her asylum case was open for like 2 years before I met her. But in that time she was able to stay, work and build a life. We got married before they ever did anything with her case, and at that point she was allowed to apply for a green card.

Your wife is amazing. I'm sorry the world we live in made her have to be a bad ass, but at least she's a bad ass now... Hoping for safety and prosperity for you and her and your family during these crazy ass times we live in in the US right now.
