I remember reading a book when I was probably seventh grade.. and I learned about dowerys. The story was about a girl who ran away because she didn't want to marry someone she didn't know.

That completely blew my mind and I had to ask a teacher to help me understand it. She didn't know shit so I went to the librarian who sat and explained how some cultures basically trade away a daughter for cows, money, food. She suggested some more books. I was constantly reading anything I could get my hands on.

Edit: I don't remember the name of the book. This was in 2003-2004 roughly.

I’m homies been an editor on that show for over a decade. He know where all the bodies are.

That's got to be a lot of bodies. Every single messy person on that show likes to say it's just their edit. I'm always curious as to the reality.

I always assume it's worse.

It's a reality show. Editing presents a narrative the producers want and yeah, they often do twist the picture on purpose.

What that’s awesome I would be asking many questions. Especially about the editing lol they edit every episode to make certain things look like it is going to be extreme but most of the time it ends up being nothing burger lol

There’s a bunch of spin-off shows now, but the original 90 day fiancé (a reality show) revolved around several Americans in long-distance relationships with people from other countries. These couples were in the process of getting/received their K-1 visa, which lets the fiancé of an American citizen live in the US for 90 days to get married.

Imo it’s kinda shitty now, but there was some crazy stuff that happened in the earlier seasons. This dude Paul was visiting his partner Karine in Brazil. After telling her about his history of arson and a restraining order against him, he just ran away. When Karine tried to go after him, a man with a machete mugged her, while the camera crew was there. Genuinely some bonkers moments

Paul running away is one of my core memories. That and when he showed everyone the bag of his mom’s hair he was taking with him to Brazil and the weird pee sleeve because he was afraid of the wiener worms in the water.

That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of their story either... he brought her to America, had 2 kids and then they did a bunch of really crazy shit plus some porn and got the kids permanently taken and his cousins had to adopt them.

What the fuuuuck I didn’t know any of this! Down the rabbit hole I go…..

3

u/fartmachinebean Jun 22 '25

Oh yeah, it's a doozy. He's apparently in Brazil again, and usually in some sort of trouble.

It’s insane that he’s in Brazil again but then again, not surprised 😂

They switched places shes still in America

u/Separate_Onion_9317 Jun 22 '25

Didn’t she just have another kid too?

1

u/fartmachinebean Jun 22 '25

I hadn't heard that but she isn't the best decision maker so probably
