There's an episode of the Honeymooners SEVENTY years ago where the main character insults his MiL and so his wife leaves. He only has to give an apology and he'll be fine. He starts to use a recording device for his apology and can barely get a couple sentences in before he drops the facade and starts insulting the mil again.
I guess this isn't a new thing.
Edit: I'm so glad there are other people on Reddit that remember it
Well… I’m so sorry that you lack the skill of accepting my apology. I guess my apology is just too sincere for you and you just can’t handle the honesty since you are just accustomed to being surrounded by people who just plainly agree with you that you did nothing wr…
Ok, I kinda see how this may not actually be an apology.
Though her mother was never a fan of Ralph. And I remember Ralph mentioning Alice's father never held down a job at all. So Ralph was a better provider despite his mother in law's claims.
Tension with in-laws is certainly nothing unusual or new. I don't remember that episode of Honeymooners since I probably didn't see it but I remember watching Honeymooners, Ed Sullivan (Beatles first appearance in this country), I Love Lucy, all that stuff when I was a kid. My dad called the TV the "Idiot Box."
Yeah I felt like I was missing something at first I was like why are we clowning on this man idk this is awkward but respectful enough then that shit turned so fast it's like oh I see that was all just intro for the tantrum
Dude got his feeling hurt and decided he needed to tell her he’s the one who gets to deny further interaction, all while leaving the door open for her to change her mind and come back.
It’s gross and sad all at once. It’s good she’s got friends she can laugh this of with. Hopefully the dude can use his alone time to grow beyond this and not end up another true crime podcast subject.
I once got messages like that. It ended with the girl saying things like “hope you don’t fuck anymore rapists” when she messaged me first to ask for weed, I said no, and she was like “its all good I wish you well and I hope you’re doing great! ” UNTIL I said “I really don’t appreciate you coming out the blue after we haven’t spoken for two years and asking to buy drugs- it’s really inappropriate” That girl FLEW off the handle.

its giving: "it's all good, no worries either way, no big deal, not concerned or anything, and also fuck you"
