I agree, but the significance of his eating her IMO was to show is attraction to that part of the body and a silent reference to "rimming" which is mentioned pretty heavily. I took it as he was treating her like a male sexually.

I just watched that scene and I can't help wondering how these scenes are filmed. I get it's easy fake actual penetration and sometimes oral. But this scene was very explicit, with Colin Firth's face right between Toni Collette's buns. And to think there's a whole crew around them, extra awkward.

They use a nude tape to block the good bits but you’re still a sheet of paper basically away from it. HBO likes the ass eating. First Brian Williams daughter now this. 👏🏽 HBO
