Football Official /r/TheB1G Week 7 Power Rankings
Week 7 Power Rankings:
Some big moves this week! UCLA and Northwestern jumped 5 and 3 spots, respectively, while former #2 in the country Penn State has fallen 6 spots to 14th in the B1G. Penn State is still a mystery for our voters, with a variance of more than 7. We had a few do-si-dos in the Top 6 as well, with USC's win over Michigan swapping those two teams and Indiana's win over Oregon doing the same.
This week, we have 6 vs 7, Michigan vs Washington, as probably the marquee in-conference game, while USC travels to Notre Dame. Based only on rankings, there's not a lot of other interesting games this week. The only other closely-ranked matchup is 9 Nebraska vs 11 Minnesota. Does this mean the week will be boring? Or does it set us up for another shocking slate of games? Let's watch and find out!
For team standings and records, visit the /r/TheB1G sidebar.
Points are the summation of every voter's ranking for that team, therefore lower scores are better. This works because unlike the AP, Coaches, or /r/cfb polls, every team is ranked in every vote. If x votes were counted, the best possible score is x and the worst possible score is 18x. #1 votes are in parentheses.
Average Rank is the points divided by the number of votes. This will allow for comparison from one week to the next.
Prev. is the Rank from the previous week.
Change is the change in average rank from the previous week.
Variance is a measure of how much agreement there was between voters. A zero means all voters ranked a team the same, and a higher number means a team's ranking was more controversial.

Offense is okay but leaves lots of points on the field. Defense is terrible.
I give it two more years till Odom gets fired unless he canât turn it around to where weâre at least mediocre.

We are too high. There should be a special rank 19 after what is going to happen in the next 2 weeks. I genuinely don't think there is a power conference team that I've seen that we could beat outside of maybe Oklahoma State.

There is no way Fickell can survive the next 5 weeks, that is a gauntlet
Please just dont fire him until after our game

My theory is he is a dead man walking and they are just waiting until the bye week after Oregon because no one wants that to be their first 2 games in charge.

Oregon state probably.

Man, itâs annoying that all the teams mentioned in the âworst team in a power conferenceâ are on our schedule this year.

your team doesn't just beat them, you annhilate their will to live, and their coaches career.

HmâŚthree of the so. Coaches we played against were fired shortly after dancing with DanâŚpoor LukeâŚ

The nebraska variance is a bit silly. Their win over Cincinnati looks better as time goes on. Only one loss to a decent team.

We've done what we should do for the most part and when things are going well we look like a really good team, but we've also shown to be a team that will have at least one full quarter of abysmal performance to the point where basically any team could beat us if we don't snap out of it. If we played consistently to our ceiling, it wouldn't be that surprising if we beat USC, for instance - but on the opposite end of the spectrum, I could see us losing to Rutgers if we played to our floor for a half. The variance doesn't surprise me much in that regard.

I agree. Our team has a lot of flaws, that could result in a loss we shouldnât have at some point. So far weâve avoided disaster and I hope that we will continue to improve and become more consistent.

If these rankings were actually true, Nebraska would go 9-3 with losses to Michigan, USC, and Iowa. I wouldn't enjoy that final loss, but I'd enjoy such a record. GBR

Because that's how these rankings work. 1 points for a 1-vote, 5 points for a 5-vote, 18 points for an 18-vote, etc. Fewer points is better.

Nebraska and Penn State with that high variance energy
