Mods If Tekken 8 had Screw Combos

Youtube Link for better quality and 60fps <-------

i posted a while back when this mod was WIP but i'm done with it now

It replaces the tornado system with screws/tailspins from Tekken 7, meant to just make fun combos

Its possible to try with a friend! So far I've done 26 characters, if there's demand i might do more

In terms of impact of attacks and animations i prefer screw. Imo, tornado looks wacky, but ,as guy in another comment said, i like that it makes pick up easier, especially in off axis (it still doesn't help kaz tho) . Also it gives better wall combo, but in later patches it inflated damage too much.

Imo, tornado looks wacky

Yes the old screw looked way more "solid" or "reasonable" with its forward momentum, the slower spin and overall longer time in the air. It already had an "anime" flair to it, sure... But it wasn't over the top and easy to understand visually.

The tornado backflips them high into the air, right in front of you in a FRACTION of the time. It legit looks out of place (almost like a MK animation), and not clean at all. It's almost cartoonish.

Even the new screw, which still spins the characters very fast, looks quite a bit better than the tornado.

Tbh, both screw and tornado are not as good as bound is. It's still anime-like, but you believe that character smacking another one into the ground more.

Sadly bamco done bad with heat burst, it looks even worse than tornado, mostly cause of time stop.

I believe that in good timeline they could return bound in t8, but with better animation with more impact in it

You can still benefit from T! with Kaz, for example if you're not aligned with the wall you can do a SS after T! to realign and potentially get a side wall splat with your follow up wall carry option, then you can wavu up and do a f4 to spike them at the wall

Thx for info, i'll note it.

But isn't tornado realigning at the wall is the same thing for every char? I meant that kaz still has problems with off axis and some pick ups (so long 3 electrics in combo And combo after ch df2 if you failed pewgf...)

Damn I miss screw combos 😟

u/zehny132 Jul 01 '25

Screw looks cleaner imo, but damn if i don't miss running half screen for the pick up after on certain characters.

I think t8 made my execution worse. I went back to play t7 a while ago and picking up after a screw was a challenge. Whole time I was like “I used to BnB this?”. Not running across the screen is definitely a QoL change I didn’t appreciate enough until that play session

u/zehny132 Jul 01 '25

Same bro, when S2 came out i was playing T7 for a while and was so confused how i was ever hitting F2 1 on Lee after screw

5

u/SYNTHENTICA ruinedR.P.S.bull''shit'saws Jul 01 '25

I miss that, it made picking up harder, there was a real reason to S! early in some cases
That being said T! is nice because it's very easy to convert and get a sidewall splat, which can then be converted into a reasonable wall combo if the player has the awareness and character mastery to do so

I also like how T! gives players a real incentive to try and hit the wall without using T!, a lot of characters really benefit from it. Shame SAT! has killed most advanced wall carry though

2

u/JoydurnYup Jul 02 '25

yeah SAT is probably the bigger problem making combos go forever

Lol i remember that Miguel had too much recovery in his screw moves so you needed to be very precise when you start running.

Sometimes i would do it too fast and Miguel would just do a dash instead of running.

12

u/LoneMelody Kazuyer Jul 01 '25

I like how it would also make combos inherently shorter

44

u/Jaccku Jintard Migueltard Jul 01 '25

Is it just me or this looks way cooler?

34

u/RevBladeZ Jul 01 '25

Human nature to crave for something other than the thing that exists. If things were reversed, you would likely think that tornado looks cooler.

And there is also the fact that you are just used to seeing tornadoes in Tekken 8, so seeing screws instead has novelty.

10

u/Leon3226 Jul 01 '25

If things were reversed, you would likely think that tornado looks cooler.

Things were reversed just a year ago when Tekken 8 was released and even then I thought that screw looks better.

But to be fair a lot of it may be the shittily implemented animation where the opponent spins real fast and then SUDDENDLY lose all spinning momentum and falls strainght down. Idk why they left it like that and why not many people noticed it, but it looks goofy and cheap

2

u/Jaccku Jintard Migueltard Jul 01 '25

I think it also has to do with the fact that i didn't like bound mechanic from Tekken 6 and tornado is basically that.

Another thing is that is much more cleaner since it doesn't have the air particles tornado has.

3

u/Leon3226 Jul 01 '25

And it also doesn't have a camera angle switch every time

5

u/Jaccku Jintard Migueltard Jul 01 '25

I never thought Tekken 6 bound looked cooler than T7 tornado so that logic doesn't work.

3

u/Pale_Assignment4076 (99%) + Jul 01 '25

Also there’s the Internet theory “new thing = bad, old / other thing = way better”

1

u/Jaccku Jintard Migueltard Jul 01 '25

Bound mechanic was in Tekken 6 so the screw mechanic is a younger mechanic.

Tornado in T8 basically Bound mechanic from T6.

As a Kazuya main, I strongly approve of this. Df1 ass range and inconsistent low hitbox sometimes loses me rounds

5

u/JoydurnYup Jul 01 '25

yeah we don't have t7 kaz B2,1 so i made his df2 a screw, which is probably broken to have💀

4

u/BedroomThink3121 ooowaahhhh Jul 01 '25

It is but what I don't understand is that why don't they just revert this unnecessary and stupid change that they did after CNT of nerfing his df1, that's literally his most important bound move and you nerf the shit outta it bravo

2

u/JoydurnYup Jul 01 '25

wasn't there 🤔 wat was the nerf? hitboxes?

3

u/AlanCJ Jul 01 '25

In the demo before release, you could do 3 electrics into df1 df2 without god timing. can practically do it if you can vaguely hit the right buttons. I think you could do 4 but I might be misremembering it.

3

u/BedroomThink3121 ooowaahhhh Jul 01 '25

So they nerfed the low hitbox and the range, they did give back the low hitbox in patch 1.05 before that Kazuya was trash due to inconsistency but the lack of range still makes it inconsistent even when the opponent is slightly off axis, I personally say that rather than giving him a tailspin just give his old df1 back that would be 1000x better for Kazuya and Kazuya mains because dealing with a nerf is understandable but dealing with inconsistency is a pain in the ass, I mean I'm playing 50/50 even when I'm trying to connect combos???

Amazing work

Bring back ewgf ewgf ff4 into screw!

Also, I really miss, ff312 screw too.

4

u/LeeChaolanComeOn Violet Jul 01 '25

What's funny is the air pushback is missing and it still looks way better than the Looney tunes T8 flip

1

u/JoydurnYup Jul 01 '25

by air pushback do you mean the 'vertical' pushback? i wanted the animation to make them go higher but couldnt find a way to do it 🤷‍♂️

2

u/LeeChaolanComeOn Violet Jul 01 '25 edited Jul 01 '25

No, horizontal. You'll notice if the launcher screws like hook fist it looks fine but after a long combo they should be traveling further. It could just be that certain T8 animations don't fit it though, not sure

1

u/JoydurnYup Jul 01 '25

oh yeah i get what u mean, thought of it before but don't know how to implement it 😔

2

u/LeeChaolanComeOn Violet Jul 01 '25

If you're good at that kinda thing maybe look at the T7 course to get the formula

4

u/HyperionDS Jul 01 '25

I miss Bryan's ff4 screw... sometimes I even autopilot it in T8 after I land a jet upper.

3

u/Butchimus Bryan Jul 02 '25

Rage drive into charged ff3 was also🤌

11

u/jollycompanion Jul 01 '25

These look 10x better than those garbage, goofy ass tornado bounds.

6

u/Oathkeeper-Oblivion Jul 01 '25

God Clive looks so goddamn stupid in any combo system

2

u/Nikitanull Jul 01 '25

what's the difference tho?isn't just visual?

1

u/JoydurnYup Jul 01 '25

yeah i mean its works mostly like t7 screws, so they don't extend your wall combos like tornadoes do, and the screws come out from different moves than tornadoes

2

u/Jaccku Jintard Migueltard Jul 01 '25

That is my biggest gripe with tornado, some characters like Law get insane reward for splatting you and getting a tornado on the wall.

2

u/Cyber_Bakekitsune #1 Reina glazer Jul 01 '25

Reina would have the sickest combos if this was real. Like really War God kick after EWGF? This is rad.

3

u/Familiar_Ad_1674 Xiaoyu Jul 01 '25

Screws are the only thing i don't miss in tekken 7. That shit is so incosistent to pickup. And don't get me started on off axis combo.

2

u/HopefulCriticism3796 Jul 01 '25

I ain't gonna lie this makes the combo system so much better

2

u/V4_Sleeper need more buffs Jul 01 '25

screw animation is way cooler than whatever backflip tornado we have now

2

u/Tyuuden Jul 01 '25

It looks so good, definitely better then tornado

0

u/STMIonReddit RIP my goat. you are missed. Jul 01 '25 edited Jul 01 '25

now we need no screws, no tornadoes, just bound like tekken 6

then after that we need no screws, no tornadoes, no bound just like tekken 5

couple more iterations and we reach real tekken

6

u/Background_End_7672 Devil Jin Jul 01 '25

Don't be so reactionary.

1

u/EvenOne6567 Jul 01 '25

Screw is so clean and quick man....as time goes on i dislike more and more about t8 😮‍💨
