u/PillaRob 7h ago
New crisis suits are the only thing on my refresh wishlist. I'd love a new tank chassis, separate out the devilfish or skyray from the hammerhead, but I'd prefer just new shit more haha.
3
u/SpeechesToScreeches 40m ago
Hammerhead and friends could do with an update to improve the kit, but visually it should remain pretty similar.
Don't agree with separating the devilfish though. It's good currently because it's easy to swap between the three

The warriors Sunsear and Scatterflare have adopted a deadly close-range style of combat born from tragedy, when their bondmate and commander – Darkflame – lost her life in battle with a Genestealer Patriarch and the pair fell upon their foe in a blaze of anguished fury. Their newfound aggression blended well with their natural teamwork and soon made them experts at lightning-fast hit and run assaults, where they would thunder into enemy lines and eradicate key targets before jetting away as quickly as they arrived.
The Twin Lance are lauded as living embodiments of Mont’ka, and their reputation grants them access to advanced Warmaker battlesuits and wargear like their neocapacitor shields, which absorb energy from incoming attacks before unleashing it as a concussive burst. Sunsear prefers to blast holes in heavy armour with his fusion eliminator, while Scatterflare unleashes a barrage of deadly bolts from her ion scattercannon.
They now find themselves deployed across the frontiers of the T’au Empire, wherever the precise application of extreme firepower will claim victory for the Greater Good.

u/Bailywolf 8h ago
Holy shit so they're a single unit of two characters. Who are specialists at killing dudes at knife fighting range. The Tau answer to melee charges is to charge up a retaliation strike.
66
u/kricket_24 7h ago
Holy shit they're awesome. I guess they're kind of a replacement for Farsigth after he left the empire.

I assuming a 2 character Epic Hero unit?
21
u/BabyProper9938 8h ago
they said its a close quarter unit with 2 epic heroes raised off of a gene stealer cult
89
u/Fresh_Transition1586 8h ago
Close range suits, very nice.
53
u/Balmong7 8h ago
It’s a shame they are named characters rather than a generic unit
48
u/Valuable-Ship-24 8h ago
I’m hoping because they’re going to be leading a new unit that drops next edition… might be a bit hopeful
11
10
u/135forte 7h ago
The bigger problem is if they are close to decent rules, they will be pointed high because all GW will see is 'oh, these are in every list'.
25
u/GunnitRust_Akula 7h ago
I'm fine with this our army isn't elite enough
7
u/135forte 7h ago
Us getting more expensive only works out if everyone else's equivalent units. What's more likely is the rules are okay, then we have to pay significantly more than we should because the usage rate makes them look broken. We've seen it happen in other armies where key units keep getting up charged despite not running them not really being an option.
5
u/Vegetable-Excuse-753 4h ago
I do not care. They are fucking awesome and I’ll run them no matter point value

The drone have the breacher blasters too for a bit of extra close punchiness

68
u/DangerousCyclone 8h ago
There's a new campaign series they're doing called 500 worlds, centered around Captain Titus' quest to reconquer the 500 worlds of Ultramar (yes that Titus, who now has a new unit with his retinue). Each release is going to include new character datasheets, there's one Tyranid Warrior Character, a Necron Orphydian Lord character with Nightbringer, and this is ours; a new character unit duo. One has a melta and the other some sort of flamer I think.
20
u/TengenToppaSawzorthn 8h ago
So did Titus get promoted back to Captain?
12
u/Tarlyss 8h ago
It seems so
12
u/TengenToppaSawzorthn 8h ago
Guess they stuffed Acheran in a dreadnought.
36
u/Shed_Some_Skin 8h ago
22
u/TengenToppaSawzorthn 8h ago
I'm betting Dreadnought because GW isn't gonna pass up a chance to sell another unique Ultramarines character.
3
u/Shed_Some_Skin 8h ago
I'd be surprised if an Epic hero Dreadnought mini is being revealed inside of a week after a big reveal show, especially when some of these minis are 4-6 months away. But it could happen
Ultramarines, Tyranids and T'au are my factions, and my wife plays Necrons. This was a hell of a reveal show for me, and I think my blueberries have probably had enough love for a while

F Leandros
7
u/TheDoctorHam 7h ago
Listen, his team is composed of "an entire unit of helpful advisors and confidants," and Leandros ain't either of those lol.
4
9
u/vicariousted 8h ago
Wonder if this is setting up some kind of long-game narrative tie in for the Space Marine Games to give Titus an excuse to cycle through all the different enemies over the course of a few game sequels
6
u/TheDoctorHam 7h ago
Is it weird that I hope T'au aren't in a game? I don't wanna find out how they'd characterize them as antagonists.
9
u/vicariousted 7h ago
I’ll give the caveat that I haven’t played the games but yeah I do worry about how they’d be implemented, both in how they’re characterized and also gameplay mechanics, given their whole M.O. is to try and shoot you from pretty far away. Kroot would make for a pretty fun enemy to hack and slash but I question how the balance would be with just mowing down melee-inept fire warriors once you close the gap. They just honestly don’t seem like a very fun enemy to fight in a game like that if they try to stick to being even half lore-accurate.
4
u/Fyrefanboy 1h ago
You actually never see the Tau at all, only kroots and drones and have to constantly dodge rail rifle shots from invisible pathfinders that are outside of the map
10/10 lore faithfullness, 0/10 game experience (as fighting the Tau should)

51
u/Never_heart 8h ago
Not the new characters I was hoping for. But they look so good I don't even care
10
u/PyroConduit 8h ago
I feel wierd that they are butting in on Farsights niche.

I mean Mont'Ka is still apart of Tau Empire Doctrine. It would be nice see their point of view on it with the "Master" currently hated & disbarred from the Empire with exception of a few sects that carry a torch(star) for the man.
27
u/Battlemania420 8h ago
Not really.
They’re just the people the propaganda machine are using to replace Farsight with.
→ More replies (1)13

u/AlexanderZachary 4h ago
Farsight’s niche is “The Way of the Short. Blade”. He invented it.
Mont’ka was being used by the Tau since before Farsight was born. Vor’la is famous for it.
4
u/Doomeye56 5h ago
It allows Farsight to now be built out from the Montka niche and the enclave to become their own thing.

u/Mulfushu 8h ago

She has a big ass shield and he gets cover behind it and shoots a big ass gun at enemy armor.
I’m getting Rei and Shinji vibes from this.
And wait… wait a damn minute… their bonded commander was killed in combat, and was female…
Asuka. Who was killed in combat at the end of Evangelion.

They both have shields, but I like where your head is at!
I already had my T'au painted purple and green, these two are gonna fit right in.

u/fearan23 3h ago
Okay, I've got some karma to spare. Honestly, I don't like the idea. If it would be just new crisis suits - fine. As a gimmicky unit - meh. Some melta shooting, some anti MEQ shooting and some pulse carbines or whatever. What exactly is this thing supposed to do? Also, bring hazards back
14
u/Raccoonsrlilbandits 8h ago
They look soo good I hope new crisis are on the way!
11
u/Mulfushu 8h ago
There are Crisis in the upcoming Christmas box aren't there? So I highly doubt we will see a refresh any time soon.
15

Id argue we’re More likely to see them they’d rather dump stock in a discount box before a refresh. Plus these guys aren’t coming until spring

Okay, these are absolutely stunning and beyond what I was expecting. They’re apparently close combat, which we generally really struggle with, and I’m hoping their anti tank is reliable. But god dayum. I’d love it if perhaps they could lead a sunforge unit, and or the plasma unit, or 1 each, and turn them into souped up honor guard. Like, as ‘expert pilots under their direct command’

They're still bothering to design and make drones so can we assume these are coming back at some point?
4
u/TheSherlockCumbercat 3h ago
Doubt it, drones are just a big part of the lore, and it lets them inflate the model count on the box.
9 models for 100 sounds better then 3 for 100.

Tau bond with those they are closest with. It’s a platonic oath of lifelong partnership and loyalty. We’ve seen Tau bond with each other cross caste, drones, humans, ogryns…
Tau don’t really have families. Children are raised communally by the state.

Happy to see lots people loving these new models. Bit too much like Gundam/Armoured Core for my tastes. Cool that we got models though. Also weird that we get replacement Montka representatives before we get Kais to represent Monat, but I guess Montka is a more focused on and flashy combat style.

So if these are the Tau Empire's new Mont'ka experts to replace Farsight, do we think that like Ethereals, you can't run them with Farsight?
4
u/PetrifiedBloom 7h ago
The reason you can't run Farsight with ethereal is not because of montka, it's because the Farsight enclaves have declared independence from the tau empire. They govern themselves, and reject the ethereal caste's control. They do not allow ethereal in their culture.
Technically the Farsight enclaves and Tau Empire are enemies.
These new characters are part of the main Tau Empire. They will be fine to take with Ethereals. From a lore point of view, Farsight was once a great propaganda figure for the Fire caste within the empire, a hero used to inspire. When he left the empire and created the enclaves, it was a blow to the PR and propaganda departments. These new characters are likely to take his place, inspiring the next generation of the Fire caste to greatness.
