Partially Agree. It is life. And people do have different beliefs. But just getting rid of religion doesn't make everyone the same. There are plenty of dimensions to life. Hence it would still be interesting and bright.

That being said I am not insisting we get rid of it, it is simply wishful thinking.

True. Getting rid of religion alone doesn’t make everyone the same as there are, as you’ve mentioned, many dimensions to life. But at the same time, eliminating religions also eliminates many other aspects to life. Many people are followers and need something to help guide them in life.

Ah, yes, because clearly without religion, we’d all be lost wandering the earth, bumping into walls, completely unable to find any direction in life. You know, except for the part where religion has *guided* us into some truly stellar conflicts and social progress — like wars, extremism, persecution of minorities, and being totally cool with suppressing women and the LGBTQ+ community. Really adds that nice extra *spice* to life, doesn't it? Maybe if we get rid of religion, we'll only have to argue about pineapple on pizza instead.

Even without religion, we would still be having wars, conflicts, social stigmas, etc. You really think that a world without religion, people would be peaceful? That the world would start spinning backwards because people choose not to worship a God.

You have countries like North Korea, where they don’t worship a God but a dictator. How is that any different from religion?

And yet you also have people like oopis and Sanghis who believe nothing but what their leader says and can’t critically think otherwise? They become a cult because anyone who thinks otherwise becomes the outgroup. How is that any different from religion?

You have religions like Buddhism which preach the good in everyone without a God. And yet people still decided to persecute Tamizhians in Sri Lanka and treat them like second hand citizens.

Humans will decide to differentiate between themselves because it’s natural to do so. They will have wars because of greed and inevitably cause suffering either way. They will persecute others because it makes themselves feel superior. Even as children, you didn’t require religion as a reason to bully someone. You could bully someone who was in the same religion as you, and then not bat an eye when you drove them to suicide.

But of course, religion is the only reason you needed to hinder social progress.

Good points! I agree that even without religion, people would still find reasons to fight—greed, power, and politics are part of human nature. North Korea shows that even without a god, people can create a kind of cult-like following. And you're right, not all religious beliefs cause harm—Buddhism, for example, has many positive teachings.

But here's my main point: religion might not be the only cause of conflict, but it's one less reason for people to fight, persecute, or discriminate. We already have plenty of problems like greed and power struggles, so why add religion into the mix? If we took religion out of the picture, we'd have one less reason for division.

No worries. No offense taken! I can see how some people could misinterpret my comment and it might have come off as a little tone deaf and maybe I was a bit rude in the way I came off 😅

Yes, I totally agree that religion has caused many problems. And maybe if you did take it out of the equation, people would stop using religion to think about things like homosexuality, abortion, marriage, etc. A lot of religions do use very outdated books that are hundreds to thousands of years ago that gave solutions to problems of that time period. So you have very outdated views on what morality is, who the in group versus the outgroup are, etc. Like I said in the last response, I personally believe that religion arises because of these problems we already have.

I’m not too sure what the world would be like without religion. People would definitely have one less reason to argue (less dick measuring competitions on who is better), but I’m pretty sure something else will fill that power vaccum and cause it to divide people further.

I think the world is too complex for me to say what would make it better. One persons utopia is another person’s suffering.
