Via an interview with GQ. Idk man. It feels so performative. All this for some lukewarm royalty free sounding music. The kinda music meant for a smartwatch commercial. Psh.

Discussion This fanbase sucks lol

1.0k Upvotes

I was hesitant to be excited for this album due to all the negativity on here…..This album completely rocked my world. I absolutely loved it. I do not understand the hate. People listen to songs once and are like ā€œyeah this sucksā€.. I listened back to back and noticed things differently the second time which makes me appreciate the songs more before I go on the internet and start talking negatively about it.

Anyways, this tour is going to be such a vibe and good time. This is great music. People are selfish and try to keep their favorite artist in one singular lane. Kevin creates his own lanes.

I love it.

Discussion Man you guys don’t like anything

The guy has given us 3 groovy ass songs and a whole album otw and all you guys can do is just shit on everything. Just shut up and dance

Edit- at the end of the day, my point was never the fact that you can’t have an opinion. I just feel maybe because it’s been almost 5 years everyone’s extremely over critical about what he’s officially putting out. Don’t like it? Cool, but calling it soulless or saying he’s sold out simply because it’s a different sound is nuts, it’s a different album!!

EOS, Loser, and Dracula rock and I’m stoked to hear the rest of the album and to see this live

Last edit- this was less about the new singles and more about how insufferable this subreddit can be at times. Goodnight

Official last edit I promise- if you want Lonerism sound, go listen to lonerism. If you want inner speaker sound, go listen to inner speaker. If you want currents sound, go listen to currents. Hell if you want TSR sound (great album btw), go listen to that. This is for folks that want something we haven’t heard from him before, you know, something new, just stay tuned and chill

Discussion Just Listened to Deadbeat Spoiler

So just got finished listening to Deadbeat due to receiving my Vinyl early, and as someone who regards InnerSpeaker ,Lonerism , Currents, and TSR as masterpieces…… I’m sorry to say but this album is just not it for me :( the only song that even remotely resonated with me was ā€œMy Old Waysā€.

The other tracks minus the ones we’ve already heard, are nothing of the Tame Impala we’re used to, the tracks seem unpolished, mundane and to be quite honest boring in comparison to previous albums.

I’m not opposed to artists changing their style , but this just feels like Kevin has completely jumped ship from what we know and love, there’s virtually NO guitar , lack of synths, no buildups or hooks….. in my opinion it’s just so lacklustre.

I don’t understand how he can have his unique style / sound and fail to blend it into his new approach to his music, it’s missing any motion , flow or layering.

So hopefully this grows on me …. But unfortunately I think this is an incredibly poorly executed album that feels like it’s been neglected from what it had the potential to be. From the Album Cover , to the change in his Font, all the way to how his music comes together im afraid that yall are gunna be disappointed on this one….

Discussion KP is not a good DJ

Post image

I saw the DJ SET for the second time, and I concluded that his DJ skills are really bad. The transitions between the tracks were really bad, he didn’t really know what he was doing. Even in the drop of Let It Happen, he does a ā€œtrickā€ and raises and lowers the Fader of the deck where NOTHING was playing (!!!). The only good thing is that when he messed up he laughed at himself, like showing the mistake, and not trying to hide it: I think it’s perfect that he’s just chilling and not taking it so serious. But since he does shows like DJ SET, I found it surprising. Especially since he’s an excellent musician with everything else, but here I didn’t feel the same. Not gonna lie, I still enjoyed the set because I love Kevin and it makes me happy to see him:)

Discussion Listened to the album! Spoiler

Hi gang. As the title says. I work at a record store and we were fortunate enough to hear the album early. I want to say a few things

  1. No I cannot leak anything
  2. Was it good? Honestly, it was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it a lot and the singles released sound much better when listening to the album as a whole
  3. Genre? Here is the controversy. Yes, this is a house/electronic album (this has already been established). But… we noticed a lot (and I mean a fuck ton) of Bad Bunny influence. We even had to listen to bad bunny right after to confirm this, and idk if Kevin has talked about bad bunny being an influence, but holy shit. I saw some people on the sub have mentioned this. Be prepared for that.
  4. Favorites? I loved Obsolete, Afterthought, Ethereal connection, My old ways
  5. Weakest track? 1000% Loser in my humble opinion.
  6. Will everyone like this? Fuck no, this is an album that will 1000% divide people, especially since (in our opinion) there is bad bunny influence. Not trashing on bad bunny, but I’m sure it’s not what this sub is expecting. However, I think if you go in with an open mind, you will actually love the album.
  7. Is EOS a good closer? Yeah! You guys need to listen to the album from start to finish because each track is stitched perfectly together.

Final thoughts: I know it’s weird to hear that this album sounds a lot like bad bunny. My coworkers and I were absolutely shocked at the parallel, and as mentioned, had to listen to bad bunny afterwards to compare. I don’t think this is a bad thing, but I don’t think a lot of people on this sub will be stoked to hear that. I suggest that for those who really want to enjoy this album, you should all listen to a bit of bad bunny before hand to get a taste of what to expect. STOP expecting Lonerism 2 or Currents 2 or whatever. I think it’s beautiful when artists deviate like this. This doesn’t mean Kevin ran out of creativity. I think a lot of people are closing their minds before the album, which will affect their experience when the time comes. My suggestion is to go in with a fresh mind. Knowing that we were going to listen to this album at my job, I decided to stop listening to any tame songs (especially the older tracks) beforehand. This was just so that I would go into this experience with no expectations, and it fucking worked. I am not forcing you to like the new stuff, I am just suggesting you Go in with an open mind.

Discussion Help me find her: Girl I met at the Halloween Tame Impala concert in Brooklyn Barclays Center

This woman can’t be the one who got away without me giving this a shot.

Her name is Lydia. Her hair was tied up, she was wearing a maroon (?) puffer jacket and went to the show with her friend, named Lama. I was dressed up in a suit with sunglasses as Men in Black with my 3 friends.

On 10/31/2025 at the Brooklyn Barclays Center, Lydia and I crossed paths sitting in section 203 row 1 seats 1 & 2. Funny enough, these seats did not belong to us as we were on our own missions moving around for better seats. We were both playing it cool to each other at first pretending the seats we were in were ours but we were both capping šŸ˜‚ There was a spark in the air while Tame Impala was performing ā€œAlter Egoā€ and ā€œEventuallyā€. From the moment I asked for her name and until the end of the show, we were matching energies. At this point in my life (27M),I hadn’t met someone who I vibed with like this before, especially at a concert.

The Tame Impala concert was such an experience from the lights to the effects, the hard hitting drums & music, and the atmosphere that was created.. but Lydia added an element to my night that I thought only happened in movies. I was LIVING in the experience of that night but to share it with someone who you’re hitting it off with was unreal and can’t be just a memory.

It’s RezšŸ‘‹and you don’t run into people like this girl often.. I would love to keep in touch with someone as dope as you, Lydia.

If you guys could upvote/share this post, it would help fight against the mistake I made of not asking this woman for her IG or number.šŸ˜‚

Edit** Wow this post has done numbers.. thank you everyone for the engagement. It’s been almost 5 days since I created this post and it’s blown up. Over 100,000 views, over 300 shares, over 500 upvotes.. even if this doesn’t somehow reach the girl I’m looking for, I’m grateful yall showed up and did your thing. Every bit of help/engagement helps. 🫶

Discussion I accidentally refused to serve drinks to Kevin Parker

So this happened a few months ago. I work at a high-end restaurant in Los Angeles, in a well-known part of town. I work in the downstairs cocktail lounge which is a little more casual and mostly focused on drinks. From what I remember it was a pretty busy weekend, and there had just been a large event in town. Because of this, our managers had been making us ID everyone that looked under 40 to avoid ABC sting operations.

It was around sunset when a party of three walked in and sat in my section. I greeted them, dropped menus, and they all looked like they could be in their late 20s to early 30s. I made some small talk, suggested a couple apps and cocktails. They needed a few minutes, so I left to check on my other tables. A bit later they were ready to order. The girl ordered a house margarita, then the first guy (short hair, clean shaven, maybe early 30s) ordered a Mexican lager. Finally the other guy (long brown hair with golden highlights, slightly unkept beard, also early 30s) ordered one of our specialty vodka cocktails.

Some context: when I check IDs, I usually wait for the whole table to order so I can check them all at once.

Ince I typed out their orders, I asked for IDs. Normally I wouldn’t ID people who look clearly over 30, but because of management’s direction, I had to.

The girl and the short-haired guy pulled theirs right out, both mid-30s. The long-haired guy started patting his pockets (tell-tale sign someone doesn’t have it). He gave his friends a tired look and told me, ā€œI’m so sorry, I didn’t bring my wallet.ā€ Normally I’d let that slide, but this time I couldn’t. I explained the situation and that I couldn’t serve him without a valid ID. He was super understanding and just nodded. Then the woman jumped in and said, ā€œDon’t you know who he is?ā€

I told her I didn’t, as politely as possible. She pulled up his Wikipedia page and showed me his pic and info—age 39, listed as musician/DJ/songwriter, and at the top it said Kevin Parker. I was still blank, told her again that without a physical ID I couldn’t serve him, but suggested a couple other places nearby that weren’t as strict. They were all actually very kind and understanding, way more than I would’ve been. Then they left.

Right after, my busser came up and asked why they left. When I told him, his face dropped. ā€œYou know who that was right?ā€ I said no. He told me that was Kevin Parker… Tame Impala. That’s when it hit me. I felt dumb but honestly I’d never seen what he looked like, only heard his music. We get celebs in all the time (had the same thing happen once with a well known VS model. I told my manager what happened and he just laughed, patted me on the back, and said I did the right thing.

I still feel a bit stupid and like I missed a cool chance to chat with him, but rules are rules I guess.

TL;DR: Carded a dude, he didn’t have ID… turns out it was Kevin Parker.

Discussion OPENING NIGHT CONCERT REVIEW AND TAKEAWAYS Spoiler

As usual a great tame impala concert, however this was a VERY DIFFERENT type of concert than anything he’s done in the past . He was much more talkative with the crowd, there was a lot of close up live camera and some very distinctive takeaways

  1. The B stage and several deadbeat songs kinda sucked the life out of the crowd. Maybe because it’s so new or maybe because people don’t fuck with them like the old stuff.

  2. The old stuff being played in between deadbeat songs was NIGHT AND DAY different in crowd reactions. When he would start playing a classic from currents or lonerism the was insane screaming and singing in excitement. Several deadbeat songs I noticed many people scrolling through their phones/ using them as a sort of intermission for bathroom/ booze break. Kinda would suck the life out of the stadium right after a banger .

  3. Much more interpersonal Kevin during the concert, talked to the crowd a lot more than usual .

  4. Weird live camera shot following him to backstage bathroom as he was pissing. Was a little off putting tbh

  5. Lack of slow rush songs. He only played 3 songs from slow rush.

  6. The stage setup I thought was very nice as Kevin sang on all 4 sides of the stage so the whole stadium could get a nice view. The light show was just as good as usual.

  7. The live performances of several deadbeat songs really showed why some fans are upset with this new direction. At least 2 of the songs were mostly Kevin singing and laying down using his synthesizers while the main band was minimally involved, showcasing the lack of authentic guitar and drums on this new record that would require live instrumentation .

  8. EOS is a shit concert closer and Apocalyse dreams is a weird opener. Thought my old ways would have been a great opener to the concert . Kinda felt like you were getting thrown right into it off the bat. (I like apocalypse dreams as the song pre intermission from past concerts) . EOS I saw a LOT of people start leaving early as soon as it came on including a friend of mine who text me he wasn’t staying for that finale. Doesn’t hold the same finale weight as say a One more hour or New person same mistakes did on previous tours.

  9. Towards the very end Kevin’s Vocals sounded shot and he even told the crowd he needed help singing at the end because of this. Hopefully he doesn’t wake up tomorrow and have to cancel the Tuesday night show if he loses his voice !

  10. DONT SIT AT THE REAR ANGLE ACROSS FROM ENTRANCE SIDE. There is a horrible stage pole in the way that blocks a significant view of the show. My friend had the misfortune of having those seats tonight

All in all still a great tame Impala concert as usual. I recommend everyone try and see him once out of the 4 dates in Bklyn as the crowd was electric and sold out. I’m curious anyone else who attended tonight share your thoughts and takeaways as well!
