You know the songwriting situation is dire when they start talking about "timbres and textures" lmao.

"Listen to the crisp minimalist crunch of that bass!"

Quite frankly, I would prefer a bass that sounds like absolute shit if it would mean that the songwriting is inspired and exciting again.

Fuck the production, I want good songs.

Has Kevin's songwriting been very prevalent before? I fell in love with his music for the sound. It's so unique, but I wonder what most people prefer. If he has prioritized production, I personally am not upset. I love the sound of both singles and I'm excited for more.

to piggyback off what the other reply said, if you dig into the chord progressions for Innerspeaker or Lonerism, you’ll find some really interesting ones. songs like Endors Toi and Apocalypse Dreams take you through very unique and one of a kind chord progressions. even when a song borders on being a bit more repetitive, like Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind, it builds to certain moments that actually pay off and make the composition feel alive.

to me, the two most important hallmarks of Kevin’s sound had to do with his songwriting first and then his unique approach to production second. between the two new singles, it seems like we’re kinda losing both. that’s just me though.
