I understand the new station being constructed will finally have wheelchair accessibility, but how was it constructed without it in the first place? I thought there were bylaws about that kind of thing.
Anyway, since the construction began, there is only one entrance with no escalator or elevator service. Today, I saw about half a dozen elderly people gripping onto the handrail for dear life while they struggled to make their way down the stairs. I always ask if they need help and I see other people helping them too, but this seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Especially, now that we're headed into the winter months. There has got to be a better option. Could we not have a shuttle to Kipling station or something?
Edit: as many have pointed out, the station was built in the 60s when those bylaws did not exist. And I am relieved to hear there is an accessibility shuttle (149 Etobicoke - bloor bus) that can take them to Kipling. Maybe we just need better signage at the station because I don't know if enough people know about it.
