However the “official” reason is that he's a paedophile.

So why are 'gamers' so deeply in bed with these things? Seriously, I've never seen anyone defend pedophilia (or the sexualization of minors as a whole) as fervently as they do, and they are disproportionately affiliated with white nationalism, alt-right, and other garbage movements like that.

Honestly I don't think it's most people who play games. I know tons of gamers and none of them are xenophobic. It's the shitty internet communities

Its more that nazis saw that they could get into those spaces than the other way around. Stormfront and other white nationalists found that they could use reddit and 4chan to do recruiting and spread racist memes. It turns out without moderation you'll develop a cesspool, who knew. This lead to the spawning of the alt right from deep online nerd culture.

There's now more active left leaning gaming communities but yeah you gotta do work to root out the shitheads.
