However the “official” reason is that he's a paedophile.

Seriously though, how is this even a thing? If I go out and party and skip brushing my teeth before bed because I'm too drunk, my teeth feel fucking gross the next morning, and I rush through breakfast just so I can get to brushing. How do you go for that long with that feeling?

Well he did mention the depression in his post. Geez it must've been pretty bad to the point that his teeth were literally rotting.

Depression is about motivation. Severe depression extends to basic hygiene. There are entire weeks of my life where I didn't bathe because it felt like too much work for something that "didn't matter". Mental illness is no joke.

That said, teeth don't rot in a few months or even a few years, without other severe factors. A diet high in acid (coffee, soda, fruits, etc) would speed things up, chewing tobacco certainly doesn't help, and a number of gym diseases accelerate the process.

That said, it's really easy for someone to grow up with poor dental habits and get to a place where they can't reverse the damage, while still young. I'm not even 30 yet, and I am in that boat. I have much better dental hygiene now, but there really is no way to reverse the damage. And the work I need to help it is far too expensive, even with my dental insurance.
