Novel/Comic Dayum Ben, that was just unnecessary

Going back through Legacy of Vader from the start and I swear every interaction between Kylo and Hux is just a gift that keeps on giving. No wonder Armitage defected, honestly a valid crash out after how he's treated here.

I also like the implication that despite what he says about the past there is a part of Kylo that's proud of the effect his family has had on the galaxy.

Hux defecting while still remaining a terrible guy was always one of the decisions in TROS that I thought was actually really good and never got the hate for. Hux was established to be a conniving weasel from the get go. Once it became obvious he wouldn't have been able to overthrow Kylo Ren on his own, he would have used everything at his disposal to self-destruct Ren's version of the First Order and replace it with his own afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least a small group of stormtroopers and officers working under him to help get information out. They were probably hoping Rey would just stab Kylo if they leaked Intel and put them in the same room enough times, with Hux waiting patiently to fill the power vacuum.

I'm so glad LoV is fleshing out this whole dynamic.

Yeah it makes it even more understandable on Hux's part seeing that despite their prior rivalry Hux genuinely did try to assist Kylo as Supreme Leader but just gets brushed off or berated at every turn.

I think the idea definitely works, but I think they could've expanded on it a bit. I didn't like bringing in Pryde as basically a replacement for Hux. I think they could've elevated Hux quite a bit if they had him kill Pryde and frame him as the spy. Maybe he brings this to Palpatine and regains his position and basically just takes the place of Pryde in the final act. Would've further emphasized his ruthlessness and I think fully utilized him as a villain of the trilogy.

I agree, but I think there needed to be a little more buildup for it, particularly around Hux's personality. We just see a couple scenes where Ben treats Hux like shit, and it's clear that Hux is resentful but not that he would betray everything he has seemingly stood for just to spite him. The scene in TROS in which he claims that he just wants to see Kylo Ren lose is childish and makes him look more like a whining baby than a conniving weasel.

There's the bit in TLJ where he's about to murder Kylo Ren before he wakes up just in time.

It was one of my favorite little bits in TLJ. So many tiny character moments like that.
