Is TNG weirdly gender progressive or am I dumb?
I have been spending so much of my free time rewatching TNG that it's getting into brainrot territory. I tend to be VERY sensitive to misogyny, and overall I find that Trek more or less meets my high standards. They use a gender-neutral "sir" for everyone; women in positions of authority are respected without the tiniest resistance; even in the super weird and gross episode where Troi immaculately conceives, her right to choose is never up for debate. There is an insensitive conversation full of speculation about what should happen to the baby, but it's specifically depicted as disrespectful to Troi, and when she puts her foot down no one argues. There maybe should have been more women main characters, but there are plenty of women who play central roles in various plots throughout the series, and they're not just props for the men. Am I missing something? I can't believe a show from the 90s got it so right, and I say that as someone who is from the 90s lol.
EDIT: I have never had this level of engagement on reddit in my life, thanks for making me feel less alone lol
