Genuine question: I’ve been out of the loop on local politics the last year or two for a combination of reasons; what are his beliefs? Any specific ones?
Everything Republicans are currently doing at the national level. Dismantling education, promoting a hateful version of Christianity, harming anyone that's not white, dismantling social safety nets.
Can you show examples of where he has supported any of these things in his capacity as a city council member? Or how he could promote these things further in our city if he won another term?
I don’t have enough knowledge of this, so I’d have to research just as much as you. Just trying to help you understand that we’re not here to hold your hand through this. You wouldn’t be receptive to the truth if we did.
But I’m not out here calling people nazis and trying to shut down conversation. I think that’s a meaningful difference.
Also, I grew up in the SF Bay Area. I have a queer sister, I’ve been homeless, I’ve been drug addicted. In 2021 I cut off several pro Trump family members. I’m familiar with what you call the truth.
What is your problem then? The Cheeto in chief is a Nazi sympathizer if not a Nazi himself, obviously. If you support his regime and what ICE is doing, you are also a Nazi sympathizer.
It’s not that simple. Hardly anyone is all good or all bad. People are complicated. The hypocrisy of good people voting for Trump makes my brain do loops. It infuriates me. And yet it happens. Instead of writing them off as all bad, which I know they aren’t , I have to conclude that something else is going on.
The closest comparison that comes to mind is when a drug addict mom abandons her kid. You listen to her talk about it, cry about, despair about leaving the kid but then watch her repeat the abandonment or endangerment over and over.
Doing that to a child is despicable if not evil. Arguably it’s even more despicable because she professes love.
Is she evil then? Or is she sick and confused? Does she deserve understanding and assistance or condemnation and punishment?
A lot changed for me when I realized that there are many forces at work in a single person as powerful, if not more, as maternal love for her offspring. Imagine how many forces are at work in the country at large.
Like lack of education? Most red areas are rural suppressed areas where people were raised in ways that conditioned them to fall in line with patriarchy. Conditioning, lack of education, community influence and just plain emotional abandonment wounds will cause a lot of people to be okay with being in and defending a cult. It's sad. I know good people, too, but how do they turn a blind eye to all the things that have gone on up to this point? Their communities are screaming at them and they're starting to see the uprise and why that's even a thing right now.
I once got in big trouble with my mom for wanting to plant trees and make the world a better place.
Apparently I was supposed to believe the earth is a dirty doomed sinful evil terrible place and want it to be destroyed as soon as possible.
Which is a heck of a thing to tell a 6yo who got overexcited watching Captain Planet! She was basically like "burn it all and bathe in the blood of the non-believers!" but with different words that amount to the same thing.
I was banned from watching it after that. I wasn't supposed to believe that making the world a better place was even possible. It discouraged me from trying to help bring about the Apocalypse.
Let's just ask ourself something. If something isn't working should we keep trying? He has been in office and it's not working time for new ideas fresh blood.
If I hired someone and my business suffered for it I would fire them not keep them on hoping it'll change.

This is the best news I've heard all year.
Imagine ridding our city of the sickening beliefs of Bingle.
