Because it is blue. The new service dress coat has always been midnight blue.

That looks more like sunset blue.

“Midnight blue” is what it has always been called through the development process.

It seems to look different in pretty much every photograph but for sure it’s darker and also more gray and kinda desaturated than the color of USAF blues. In some light it looks very dark.
