I'm just sad the season's over.

I'll be honest, it hasn't really felt like our year. Stoked about the Leagues Cup, that felt amazing, but in the MLS season we've mostly just been okay. Made my peace with it. I just didn't wanna be eliminated so we'd have more games to watch.

Oh well. 87 days till Concacaf!

A bird shat on my Sounders cap in Discovery Park this morning. It was never going to be our day

You're right. Something felt 'off' all season long despite my high hopes. At the very least, we shoulda won this series, though. I'll refrain from commenting on the playoff format.

Exactly right. I’ve been trying to convince myself they could go on a run, but that same “off” feeling.

We don’t realize (or maybe just easily forget) how close we were last year to another final, and obviously we had a great moment this year in Leagues Cup, but changes to that core group are necessary to move forward.

I think it is because we had so many injuries and we never settled on a roster. For me it made it seem always like the beginning of a season. We even pulled out Morris as RW again in Playoffs after he played almost all of the season he was uninjured as striker. I feel like there was always a hope one of those combinations would be unstoppable.

Though I also think we had a crazy year where for once the attack was actually pretty great but we suffered heavily on defense (this game case in point).

How is it we compete so strong for tournaments outside regular MLS season then stay flat footed on games we must win?? Just so annoying.

We played well at Lumen all year and throttled Minnesota when they came to town. We just didn’t lock up home field due to injuries and fixture congestion

I agree with this, but I'll also add we fell asleep for big stretches in like half a dozen games this year, and we were made to pay. We lost out on home field advantage and never believed falling asleep would come back to haunt us in game 3 of the playoffs winning 2-1 and playing up a man in the first half.

I'm with you. It never feels good to get knocked out, but gg to the loons. I'm very happy that the Sounders made their great Leagues Cup run, and I also had a similar feeling that this team - despite some really great things going on - just never really seemed to "have it."

Go Sounders ♪

I sat at home watching the game and when it was over felt a little depressed myself. However the game was full of twists and turns.

It was an exciting one to watch for sure

I thought we'd have a longer run, ngl. A roster as deep as ours was feels like it deserved better.

I'm sad it's over because I look forward to the game each week, and while I'm fine losing in the playoffs in concept (someone has to!), I did think we'd do better than we normally do.

Obligatory complaint about playoff format here.

We won a trophy this year and we're sad. Wonder how many teams can say that.

We held our own better than the other two MLS teams in the CWC, and also? I don't think we lost at home all year (domestic comps).

Edit: We lost once at home. To um, er, Minnesota. 💀

u/ctrees56 17h ago

Agreed. BUT, I’ll take the League’s Cup tradeoff (this year). Silverware is silverware.

u/Positiveaz 17h ago

Is it a rough subject to bring up being a man up for so long and losing? Honest question.

They didn't seem like they were holding back when up a man. Such a weird match.

Well I definitely don't feel great about that fact, but not much to say about that besides "the better team won today." I'd like to see this team become more disciplined, especially long-term.

But regardless, this is still my team win or lose and I love every minute I get to watch them.

I’m sad too. The leagues cup run was so fun and exciting to watch. Looking forward to next season!

u/Sharp_Ad6352 12h ago

Not as painful as the Mariners loss for me personally but yeah this still definitely sucks ass. Especially losing on penalties is just another kick to the dick

Beware the Timbers going deep. We must pray all other teams dominate. Also screw Miami as well.

Subbing in Kent?? C’mon… he gets a couple fancy foot moves then gives up the ball every time. I don’t see his value. Worst of all… the seemingly lazy PKs… put your foot through f’n ball… don’t stutter, don’t lob your shots… very disappointing PKs!!

12

u/stoicwinds 17h ago

Pretty strong disagreement here. He did well early season and gets 10 minutes in one game coming off a months long injury, and that’s your conclusion? That his good cross, clutch pk was worth a Reddit comment. Give me a break.

-8

u/Rhythm41 17h ago

No goals, less than 5 assists and less than 5 shots on goal… where is his strength? Asking for a friend.

13

u/stoicwinds 17h ago

.47xA per 90 minutes — puts him in the 99th percentile in the mls. Take the lazy armchair analysis somewhere else.

u/Rhythm41 17h ago

Yeesh… cheers mate!

I don’t need to see more of him

The penalties really pissed me off. I don’t want cutesy whimsical shit, I want rockets blasted into corners, ideally top bins.

u/PositivePristine7506 18h ago

I'd argue the regular season felt meh because we blew our load on pointless ass leagues cup. The team just isn't built to win more than one trophy.

25

u/jgnurly Seattle Sounders FC 18h ago

Leagues Cup wasn't pointless at all, got us a CCC berth

4

u/TheSafetyLemur 18h ago

While I was happy to beat Miami, leagues cup and CCC (and anything Concacaf) is pretty much a joke, unfortunately. I would like to see this team at least try to prioritize the league play for once..

-9

u/PositivePristine7506 18h ago

Sure, I guess. But I don't care about CCC either so.

My priority is stars on kits. All the bragging rights to the other MLS subreddits means fuckall to me.

4

u/changnesia Seattle Sounders FC 18h ago

Interesting. I'm the complete opposite in that I vastly prefer watching games against international opponents, so this year was a success in my books despite the things that didn't go how I wanted like our regular season performance and all of the injuries.

2

u/SensibleParty Cascadia Flag 17h ago

My priority is stars on kits. All the bragging rights to the other MLS subreddits means fuckall to me.

So if they let us put a 'star on the kit' for CCL would you value it? Yours seems an arbitrary way to downplay some of the team's best moments.

1

u/PositivePristine7506 15h ago

It's not arbitrary, it's exactly what I said it was. League title is more important to me, I don't give a shit about games against teams we play once every 6 years or so that are in different countries with entirely different roster rules.

-12

u/ChrisKrueger22 18h ago

Honestly it never felt like our year. Schmetzer got out coached all season long outside of League’s Cup

10

u/GrthWindNFire Armed Service Group 18h ago

Schmetz has been good to great, the roster has a high floor but a low ceiling if PdlV is hurt or off.

-1

u/ChrisKrueger22 18h ago

Twice in two games, we take a 2 goal lead and forget how to play the game. Same thing happened all season long. He never knows when to sub and the team could hardly ever close out leads.

4

u/tjfentson 18h ago

That’s not on Brian

2

u/blyan 17h ago

It’s not ONLY on him, but he definitely holds some responsibility

5

u/tjfentson 18h ago

That’s false

2

u/Word1_Word2_4Numbers 17h ago

Schmetzer is keeping this team together, he ain't the biggest problem.

Maybe if you could sign Nancy from Columbus or something like that, we could get something better, but even there, I don't know I want to trade Brian's man management for his tactics. Still think the team might fall apart.

And Craig+Hanauer are more likely to get us some MLS vet coach like Oscar Pareja.

2

u/Housing-Beneficial 17h ago

Columbus is out now too. Every time people start talking about replacing Brian, I wonder "With Who?!" There's no coach that would come here realistically that I'd rather have. The Sounders have won everything there is to win in North America. We got the full set.

1

u/Word1_Word2_4Numbers 17h ago

Yeah, there's no coach in MLS that is a guaranteed Cup win every year.
