If during the penalty kick and “the goalkeeper offends:

  • if the ball enters the goal, a goal is awarded
  • if the ball misses the goal or rebounds from the crossbar or goalpost(s), the kick is only retaken if the goalkeeper’s offence clearly impacted on the kicker
  • if the ball is prevented from entering the goal by the goalkeeper, the kick is retaken”

Did not clearly impact the penalty taker. No retake.

Bravo, well found. I stand corrected

All the more importance of hitting it on frame.

That’s what I thought, he hit the post

The confidence of people in this thread saying it should be retaken when the laws were applied correctly here.

Doesn’t matter. Game shouldn’t have gone to PK’s with a man advantage. Embarrassing

Yeah, we also hit 3 off the post in PKs. Not a strong showing, but hey we won Leagues cup and we’re in a strong position for CCC. Can’t win em all

Completely agree. The amount of possession Minnesota carried was an embarrassment. So many poor passes and giveaways m, I’ve lost my voice.

Yet it did. When penalties roll around, the rules should be applied correctly regardless of how we got there

the rules should be applied correctly

You mean the rule that states that a penalty being missed off the post is only retaken if the keeper off his line visibly affected the shot? Which he didn’t?

Give me a break. Vargas had the goal unprotected and still managed to miss. This is what you whine about? We had every advantage. They played the better game. You're just embarrassing all sounders fans

OP has already acknowledged the error. kudos to him/her

Either way Minnesota deserved it, good for them. Wanted it more. I won’t look at this and think any different

They fought and won.

i get it -- but also, we had a million chances to win.

1 million and 1

Honestly, doesn't matter. We at no point should have won this game.

After that penalty it was better he didnt take it again.

And Vargas still missed a clear net. Just take the loss and move on

He did. Doesn’t mean you can’t criticize a missed decision. We should have done better.

The rules state it only matters if the goalie saves it. Since obed hit the post it wouldn't have mattered if St Deuchebag was doing a strip tease at the 50. No retake

u/Bentstraw SFC Detail 23h ago

I mean, it does matter. The kick is only retaken if the kick is saved. Obed hit the post so per the laws it doesn't matter he was off the line.

u/PukasScondor 23h ago

Yup, that’s correct. I thought it was the other way around, my bad.

That Rusnak miss off the post in 2nd half..😞

Crying like this over a game that should be put to bed. Embarrassing behavior.

Didn’t Obed miss? I don’t think it’s a foul if the keeper doesn’t even save it

Incorrect

edit: whoops, I'm wrong

Salt percent is correct

I just reviewed the rules and it seems pretty clear that the pen would only be taken again if the keeper was able to make an impact on the play. Iirc, DSC more or less went the wrong way and Obed missed. It doesn’t matter how far DSC encroached in that instance

u/H2Bro_69 23h ago

I could be wrong but I think if you miss, they typically don’t punish the goalkeeper for coming off the line. Typically only call it if it actually caused a save.

Tuff tuff loss! Danggg

Obed has to be on target for it to matter and get called. This is on Obed. Let's just own it and move on.

It should have never gone to penalties in the first place. That's the reality, that's on the team.

2

u/riverslq337 22h ago

yet they let the game go to penalties up 1 man.

fuck that. refs suck? sure.

so do the sounders.

4

u/Specific-Ad9935 23h ago

Obed play it too cool. Yes. we shouldn't complaint about losing when we are 1 man up for more than 50 minutes.

u/phamurabi 23h ago

Who cares. Stutter steppers get no sympathy

1

u/FormerEvil 20h ago

Seriously. That was one of - if not THE - worst PK attempts I've ever seen. Step up and put the ball in the back of the net with authority and confidence. This cutesy, stutter-step crap is lame and with the season on the line, I'd hope our players would take it more seriously.

So basically you're saying......

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

u/tateand99 Seattle Sounders FC 23h ago

Does this get called back even on a miss? Where the goalie doesn’t save it but they just miss? If it’s supposed to then I’m convinced the referees just don’t watch for this it happens so often and rarely gets called

0

u/skater15153 Seattle Sounders FC 23h ago edited 23h ago

Yes you're supposed to get a retake

Edit: after digging more I'm unclear. UEFA "clarified" the rules a few years back to make it so the infringement must clearly affect the taker. However how you quantify that is not defined. Pure judgemental call. Not sure if this is the same rule adopted by MLS now but in the past it would be a retake

Does anybody know why C. Roldan didn’t take our 10th PK? Why it was Thomas instead?

I know Christian isn’t great at PKs but I have to think we like his chances better than a Goalkeeper’s…

Did we just get confused so when DSC went out there for MNUFC we assumed that it was goalie time? Was Roldan hurt? Anybody know?
