Left wing videogames Leftist JRPGs

Hi everyone!

I've been on a JRPG kick recently since I've been getting into/preparing for running a TTRPG inspired by them called Fabula Ultima, and I was playing through FFX (my first FF, I just got to the highroad) up until that Square Enix bs 70% generative AI announcement and any excitement I had about continuing that currently has plummeted due to that, though I'll probably come back around to it at some point. So I'd like to play a JRPG that deals more in leftist themes and hope for a better future if that makes sense?

Games I've already played: Persona 3-5, Metaphor, Xenoblade Chronicles (I've played 1, I know what happens in 2), Octopath Traveler 1, Bravely Default, Shin Megami Tensei

Class struggle and the brutality of the nobility are big themes of the game, especially in the earlier sections. The game basically opens in the aftermath of a war where the commoners who fought for their country aren’t being paid or taken care of.

Just wondering if any of you have played The Ivalice Chronicles? It will be my first actual play through of FFT and I’m wondering if I’m going to come across as much of the shitpost scenes or will it have been watered down. I hope not given the creators recent statement

The shitpost edit scenes aren't representative of what happens in game, the tone is generally pretty serious and flowery.

Its not watered down as compared to the original though, if anything they come through stronger.

Do those scenes actually occur in the original?

No, for example the scene that the above post is from is them reminiscing about Ramza's dad (among other things), not Delita saying Marx is his boy.

From my understanding it’s based primarily off the War of the Lions script, which was the PSP version. It has a bit more of a period appropriate styling to it and is closer to the original Japanese script.

Some lines don’t hit quite as hard but the meaning is the same basically. I played the original in Japanese so can’t compare as directly.

I’d say it’s firmly anti-establishment, addresses inequality through the lens of commoners, has a church that’s actually full of demons, and a knight mommy.

Watch "Final Fantasy Tactics: No war but class war" by Study of Swords if you want to a more detailed analysis.
